In the world of “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” I found myself immersed in a tale brimming with sorrow and hardship, yet fascinatingly so. Interestingly enough, I discovered that the author took immense pleasure in writing the demise of a beloved character more than any other. This anime series, masterfully produced by Studio Trigger, presented an intriguing extension of CD Projekt RED’s universe as depicted in “Cyberpunk 2077.” The original series introduced us to a fresh cast of characters, their stories unfolding beautifully from start to finish during its run. Bartosz Sztybor, writer of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series, expressed his gratitude for the love conveyed through the show to all the creators. He mentioned that he was touched when viewers cried after David’s death. Although it wasn’t a pleasure writing that emotional scene, he did take delight in writing Rebecca’s demise, for which he apologizes. This statement preceded Sztybor confirming that the deaths portrayed in the series are permanent, meaning both David and Rebecca are deceased within the franchise’s lore. However, there may be a chance for Lucy’s fate to differ.

Sztybor pointed out that Lucy survived until the end of the initial series, hinting she might have escaped David and Rebecca’s fate. However, it’s evident that Rebecca is no longer alive, much to the disappointment of fans who adored her character. Among Lucy, David, and Rebecca, Rebecca was undoubtedly the favorite from the show’s first season. It bodes well for the upcoming series of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners that they won’t resurrect a deceased character to generate easy excitement in the new season. Although spin-offs and other projects are still being considered.

What to Know for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2

Regarding the upcoming sequel to “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” it’s currently being developed for release on Netflix, though an official date or timeframe has not been disclosed yet. Kai Ikarashi, who directed Episode 6 of the original series, will assume directorial duties for “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2” in collaboration with CD Projekt RED and Studio Trigger. Kanno Ichigo will take on the role of character designer, while Masahiko Otsuka and Bartosz Sztybor will serve as showrunners, scriptwriters, and producers.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 consists of ten episodes upon its debut, and it’s crucial to note that this isn’t a continuation of the original series. Instead, it introduces a fresh set of characters with unique narratives. As for these new characters, they remain shrouded in secrecy at present. To pique our curiosity, creators hint at the upcoming series by posing, “When the world is dazzled by spectacle, what lengths will you go to make your story significant?” This suggests a thought-provoking exploration of themes for the new show.
