In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, new mutants are appearing, yet a version like Deadpool won’t be included. The upcoming “Age of Revelation” comic book series, releasing this October, offers a glimpse into the future, where Revelation, the heir of Apocalypse, is on a path to world domination. Simultaneously, a devastating disease is sweeping through humanity, turning anyone who contracts it into unstable mutants. Many Marvel heroes and villains have already met their end due to this virus or battles, but Deadpool persists, despite his wishes otherwise following his transformation. This portrayal of Deadpool is one of the darkest ever created, and its intensity makes it unsuitable for any film adaptation.
Undeadpool Rises
Deadpool has long yearned to be part of the community of mutants, having been mistaken for one and joining the X-Men multiple times throughout his life, yet never truly feeling a sense of belonging. After contracting a virus, Deadpool’s dream finally becomes reality as he transforms into a mutant – albeit in the most gruesome manner imaginable. The Merc with the Mutated Mouth now finds himself confined within his own zombified body, perpetually craving the vitality of fellow mutants. He stumbles aimlessly on and on, with his regenerative abilities tirelessly working to prevent his body from decaying completely. However, the only means to alleviate his torment is by devouring those he once considered friends. In “Undeadpool” #1, we witness the mutant mercenary pursuing the new mutants Fearless, Magni, Kid Man-Thing and Fantastica as potential sustenance.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I must say that this latest take on Deadpool is significantly darker than most other portrayals, and let’s face it, the regular Deadpool isn’t exactly a ray of sunshine. His new look and insatiable appetite seem to draw heavily from one of Marvel’s most frequently referenced and iconic alternate universes – the chilling world of Marvel Zombies. In this universe, Marvel’s heroes and villains are consumed by an overpowering hunger for human flesh. Deadpool has had a prominent role in sequels and collaborations within that realm, and it appears as though the mainline version is now mirroring his counterpart’s actions, becoming a formidable threat to anyone who still draws breath.
In a chilling twist, Undeadpool appears to be an indomitable beast, as it merges Deadpool’s lethal combat skills, regenerative abilities, and an insatiable appetite for consuming his fellow mutants. To make matters worse, Wade experiences unending mental agony because he finally receives what he desires most, only to have it backfire horribly upon him. Given this dark narrative, it seems highly unlikely that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) would ever embrace such a storyline, as every mutant introduced would merely serve as sustenance for Undeadpool – the seemingly unkillable creature that he has become.
Undeadpool #1 goes on sale October 29th!
