Ahead of CCXP 2026, the Brazilian entertainment news site Omelete shared some promotional pictures of characters from the new Prime Video series. They revealed that Sandman will have superpowers – a change from the Spider-Man Noir comics that the series is based on – and confirmed that the glowing hand shown in the trailer belongs to Electro. These two classic Spider-Man villains are just a few of the many antagonists that have been confirmed or hinted at in the series.
The main villain will be Silvio Manfredi, also known as Silvermane, and Felicia Hardy will make an appearance, though it’s unclear if she’ll become the Black Cat. The trailer hinted at other enemies like Man-Spider and Molten Man. Plus, the Vulture seems poised to play a key role in Spider-Man’s origins, based on the comic books. With this large group of villains, Spider-Noir has the potential to finally achieve what the live-action Spider-Man movies haven’t: bring together the Sinister Six.
Sony Has Repeatedly Attempted to Adapt Spider-Man’s Most Popular Villain Team
The Sinister Six is a team of villains from the comics, united by their common goal of defeating Spider-Man.
The Sinister Six – originally made up of Doctor Octopus, Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio, Sandman, and the Vulture – has seen its members change over time. While they’ve often appeared in cartoons and animated series, the team hasn’t yet made a successful appearance in a live-action movie, despite several attempts.
The idea of a Sinister Six villain team in Spider-Man movies started with director Sam Raimi. After making Spider-Man 3, he talked about using villains like the Vulture, the Lizard, and Electro, and even suggested a Sinister Six team could happen. However, the series was restarted with Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man, and those plans were never realized.
Sony originally planned to expand its Spider-Man universe by creating spin-off movies based on the films directed by Marc Webb. The ending of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hinted at several famous villains, with plans for a Sinister Six movie directed by Drew Goddard. But when Sony decided to restart the Spider-Man series yet again, these spin-offs were canceled. Instead, the studio partnered with Disney to include Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
When it became clear that Spider-Man: No Way Home would feature villains from different universes, fans started predicting the appearance of the Sinister Six. This idea gained traction as more villains were confirmed, but the movie ended up with only five of Spider-Man’s enemies teaming up.
The film Morbius tried to set up a team of villains, similar to the Sinister Six, by bringing in characters from different universes. In a post-credits scene, the Vulture from the Marvel Cinematic Universe unexpectedly appeared and suggested to Morbius that they form a team of people with similar abilities, believing it could be beneficial. However, these plans were abandoned due to the poor reception of Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter.
Spider-Noir Can Succeed Where the Live-Action Spider-Man Films Failed
Fans have long hoped to see the Sinister Six – a team of Spider-Man’s classic villains – appear together in a live-action movie, as they frequently do in the comics. Sony has attempted this several times, but plans have repeatedly fallen through due to reboots or disappointing box office results.
Finally, Spider-Noir has a chance to end this curse. A streaming series is a great way to showcase a big team of villains like the Sinister Six. Nicolas Cage, who stars as Spider-Noir, has said the show will have eight episodes. The first six episodes could each focus on introducing a different villain, and then Silvermane could bring them all together for a two-part showdown with Spider-Man.
The Sinister Six would be a great villain group for this version of Spider-Man. He’s more mature and seasoned than previous live-action Spider-Men, so he needs a truly powerful enemy. The Sinister Six are particularly dangerous because they attack as a team, both overwhelming Spider-Man with numbers and working together to protect each other’s weaknesses – things he could normally take advantage of when fighting villains one-on-one.
Outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, Sony’s Spider-Man projects haven’t been very strong lately. Their new Spider-Noir series suggests a change in strategy, with a focus on a darker, more mature tone. While it’s a gamble, this could really pay off. This series has the chance to do something the films haven’t – and it would be a great way to finally bring a successful live-action Sinister Six to the screen, breaking a pattern of disappointing attempts.
