
Build a Rocket Boy, the company that created the unsuccessful game MindsEye, is laying off more employees.
According to a LinkedIn post from CEO Mark Gerhard, the company is laying off an unspecified number of employees due to the game’s poor performance after its launch last year.
Honestly, it’s a really tough break, and Gerhard himself said it was a hard call to make. He promised they’re going to help everyone who’s losing their job find something new, which is good to hear, I guess.

Right now, our priority is supporting our departing team members. We’ll also be sharing information about those leaving with networks that assist developers in finding new jobs, to help connect them with potential opportunities.
It’s unfortunate that layoffs are still happening across the industry, but Gerhard’s comments place significant responsibility for the studio’s problems, and the poor performance of the MindsEye launch, on illegal actions.
We, as leaders, own the results of our work and any decisions made as a result. However, the recent launch faced difficulties beyond typical business issues, as well as strong competition.
The statement continues by explaining that MindsEye is currently working with outside experts and lawyers to fully investigate a deliberate and focused attack.
The investigation took much longer than anticipated, but we’ve now found strong proof of organized spying and deliberate damage to MindsEye, according to Gerhard. He explained that because legal action is being considered, they can’t release all the information to the public at this time.
People have reacted poorly to the announcement, largely because it included news of layoffs alongside the ongoing investigation.
I remember when MindsEye came out in June 2025 – it was a huge disappointment. It actually got the worst reviews of the entire year! It was so bad, Sony was giving refunds through the PlayStation Store, and they almost never do that – it has to be a really serious issue for them to do that.
Even before the game’s launch, Gerhard said there was a “concerted effort” to “trash the game”.
