Many consider the first three games in this series to be the greatest RPG trilogy ever made, and one of the best trilogies in gaming overall. Thankfully, they’re currently available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers, who are really enjoying them. However, opinions are split among Xbox fans regarding the fourth game. While it’s also included with certain Game Pass subscriptions, many feel it doesn’t quite live up to the quality of the original three.
Recently, players on the Xbox Game Pass subreddit have been rediscovering how highly regarded BioWare once was, especially the original Mass Effect trilogy. Though the studio isn’t as strong now as it used to be, it was once considered one of the very best in the gaming industry. During its prime, BioWare released the critically acclaimed Mass Effect trilogy. The first game, released in 2007, received a score of 91 on Metacritic. Mass Effect 2 followed in 2010, earning an impressive 96. Finally, Mass Effect 3 concluded the story in 2012 with a score of 93.
“Masterpiece” Sci-Fi RPG Series
It’s taken over a decade, but many gamers are now experiencing the Mass Effect trilogy thanks to Xbox Game Pass. A popular recent post on the Xbox Game Pass Reddit page perfectly captures this, with a user simply stating how impressed they are with the games and wishing they’d played them earlier.
It’s common for people to enthusiastically praise the Mass Effect trilogy when it’s mentioned, with many calling it a true masterpiece.
I just finished the trilogy, and honestly, it’s incredible! Even though the ending is always a talking point, the whole thing is a masterpiece, in my opinion. Seriously, it’s become my all-time favorite saga – I can’t get enough of it!
A lot of the conversation revolves around Mass Effect Andromeda, the fourth game in the series released in 2017, which many see as the beginning of BioWare’s decline. The original poster asked if it’s worth playing, and most commenters agree it doesn’t live up to the standards of previous games and isn’t worth your time. Still, a few people believe the game is better than it’s often given credit for.
One player shared that they couldn’t finish Andromeda because they didn’t want to ruin their good memories of the original Mass Effect games. However, another player disagreed, explaining that Andromeda had a difficult start, but after several updates, they enjoyed it. They expressed disappointment that there won’t be any sequels, but still recommend giving the game a try.
A Permanent Xbox Game Pass Addition
All four Mass Effect games are available with an EA Play subscription. Since EA Play is included with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and on PC, that means you get all four games for free with your Game Pass subscription. You can enjoy the critically acclaimed original trilogy, and then decide for yourself what you think of Andromeda.
Okay, so if you’re an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass subscriber, you’re in luck! You actually get both the original versions of the games and the updated collection that came out in 2020. Some people might prefer the originals for nostalgia, but honestly, the remasters are the way to go. Plus, unlike the originals, they include all the DLC, so you get the complete experience right out of the box.
