DC Comics boasts a huge roster of incredibly powerful heroes, some capable of amazing feats that affect entire universes. While many famous heroes are men, DC also features a wealth of equally powerful women. These heroines possess god-like abilities, whether it’s incredible strength or reality-bending magic, and many have spent years mastering their skills in battle. From the depths of the ocean to the furthest corners of space, these powerful women consistently use their gifts to protect others and defeat evil.
While superhero stories often focus on male characters, many women possess even more impressive abilities and talents.
10) Mera

Mera is one of the most powerful beings in the underwater world, second only to Aquaman. Like all Atlantians, she’s incredibly strong and can survive the immense pressure of the deep ocean. She’s battled and held her own against incredibly powerful foes like Black Lantern, Wonder Woman, and Eclipso. But what truly sets Mera apart is her mastery over water. She can control water in all its forms with unmatched skill and power – she’s instantly dried out the Flash, cut off Ocean Master’s air supply, teleported using water, flooded entire cities, and even single-handedly defeated the entire Justice League while controlling a massive amount of ocean water. While Aquaman rules the seas, Mera is arguably its most powerful force.
9) Starfire

Koriand’r, known as Starfire, is the princess of Tamaran and a remarkably powerful warrior. Though she usually seems kind and easygoing, she’s a formidable fighter with years of training and incredible superhuman powers. Starfire is strong enough to destroy spaceships, incredibly fast – able to travel across galaxies quickly – and has battled alongside heroes like Donna Troy, General Zod, and Wonder Woman. Her signature move is firing starbolts, which can obliterate even powerful ships like Brainiac’s at full strength. When pushed to her limit, Starfire can release all her energy in a devastating explosion as hot as the sun.
8) Green Lantern (Jessica Cruz)

As a critic, I’m consistently amazed by Jessica Cruz, one of the Green Lanterns. What sets her apart isn’t just the power ring – it’s her sheer force of will. Seriously, this woman can manifest anything she can envision. We’re talking about creating everything from weapons and armor to entire vehicles, all powered by her imagination. I’ve seen her feats on screen – tearing through starships like they’re nothing, stopping natural disasters like tsunamis and volcanic eruptions, even absorbing Darkseid’s Omega Beams! And it’s not just big, flashy saves; she’s consistently taken down some seriously tough intergalactic baddies – Star Sapphire, the Dominators, the Red Lanterns, and the Fatal Five all fell to her. Jessica Cruz isn’t just powerful; she’s a force to be reckoned with.
7) Mary Marvel

Similar to her adopted brother, Billy Batson, Mary Bromfield becomes a superhero when she says “Shazam.” As Mary Marvel, she gains incredible powers based on figures from mythology – the speed of Selene, the strength of Hippolyta, the endurance of Artemis, the ability to fly like Zephyrus, the protection of Aurora, and the intelligence of Minerva. She can also shoot powerful lightning blasts. Mary Marvel is as powerful as Shazam, capable of feats like destroying asteroids, flying faster than light, moving islands, breaking through powerful energy constructs, and defeating formidable DC characters such as Captain Atom, Black Adam, and the Aztec god Quetzalcoatl.
6) Supergirl

Supergirl, also known as Kara Zor-El and Superman’s cousin, is one of the most powerful Kryptonians around. Like Superman, she gains incredible abilities – including super strength, speed, flight, heat vision, and freezing breath – from Earth’s yellow sun. While not quite as powerful as Superman, Supergirl is a highly skilled and experienced fighter who has battled many of the DC Universe’s biggest threats. She’s incredibly fast – fast enough to threaten the fabric of space and time – and durable enough to survive a nuclear blast at close range. She’s even destroyed moons and almost defeated a villain who threatens entire universes! Thanks to training on Themyscira, she fights like the skilled Amazon warriors, and regularly holds her own against powerhouses like Wonder Woman and Superman.
5) Power Girl

Power Girl comes from another Earth and is a more seasoned and powerful version of Supergirl. As a Kryptonian, she’s incredibly strong and fast, making her one of the most physically formidable heroes in the DC Universe. She’s demonstrated her immense power by feats like sending Wonder Woman flying from Washington D.C. to Canada, creating earthquakes, lifting a starship the size of a city, and even pushing the moon. Power Girl has consistently defeated other powerful heroes, including Supergirl, Captain Atom, and the entire Justice League International team. She’s even managed to beat an alternate version of Superman. With her incredible strength and sometimes fiery temper, Power Girl is a truly formidable opponent.
4) Big Barda

Born and trained on the brutal planet Apokolips, Big Barda began as the leader of Darkseid’s most powerful soldiers, the Female Furies. But when she fell in love with Mr. Miracle, she left her old life behind and dedicated herself to fighting for good. Despite changing sides, Big Barda remained incredibly strong and a fierce warrior. As an immortal, she’s trained for countless years and possesses strength rivaling Wonder Woman. Her main weapon, the Mega Rod, allows her to unleash devastating attacks and powerful energy blasts. Considered Apokolips’ greatest warrior, Big Barda can defeat even some of the strongest New Gods, like Granny Goodness, Knockout, and her former team, the Female Furies.
3) Raven

Raven is one of DC Comics’ most powerful magic users. As the daughter of the demon Trigon and a student of Azarath’s sorcerers, she’s learned countless spells. These abilities include things like astral projection, flying, controlling objects, reading minds, moving things with her mind, blasting energy, manipulating time, seeing the future, and even manipulating souls. She can even transform her own soul into a massive, incredibly durable bird capable of blocking out the sun. If Raven fully gave in to her demonic side, her power would increase dramatically, making her a devastating force. Because of her immense potential, Raven has fought and defeated some of the most powerful magical beings in existence, such as Neron, Trigon, and the Spectre.
2) Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman, arguably the most famous female superhero ever, is incredibly powerful, fast, and a skilled fighter. Raised on the hidden island of Themyscira as an Amazon, she’s trained her whole life in combat. Beyond her training, her godly lineage gives her immense strength – she’s even pulled a planet, escaped a black hole, and overpowered the entire Justice League while blindfolded! Wonder Woman is incredibly fast, capable of tapping into the Speed Force, and her sword is powerful enough to break down matter itself. She frequently defeats ancient gods and is one of the few heroes who can go toe-to-toe with Superman. Removing her bracelets further amplifies her already impressive abilities.
1) Zatanna

Zatanna appears to be a typical stage magician, but she’s actually DC Comics’ most powerful magic user, capable of changing reality itself. Simply by thinking or speaking words backward, she can accomplish almost anything – bringing people back to life, transforming objects, bending time, controlling others, stripping powers away, teleporting anywhere, or even completely erasing someone from existence. She’s incredibly powerful, once even breaking the rules of reality to manipulate the very fabric of storytelling, and has demonstrated feats like unleashing energy equal to a year of sunlight, creating an ocean on the moon, and sending shockwaves throughout the entire universe. She’s defeated incredibly powerful beings that exist across multiple universes, including Zor, Pralaya, and the Great Darkness.
