The epic tournament in DC K.O. has concluded with Superman winning the title of King Omega and stopping Darkseid’s invasion—or so it seemed. A surprising reveal shows that the entire event was part of a much larger, multiverse-spanning plan by Darkseid. The tournaments across all realities were actually designed to empower him, and he’ll be back soon. But Darkseid isn’t the only one returning: a long-lost DC hero, absent for a decade, is also making a comeback.
Okay, so everyone thinks our heroes won against Darkseid, but honestly, that’s just one version of the story. Across the multiverse, countless other versions of these heroes were still battling it out, unknowingly making Darkseid even stronger! And while he’s hinting at another huge crisis, something else is going on in the shadows. It’s subtle, but there’s a character quietly pulling strings who I think is a seriously underrated player in the DC universe: Pandora. Her return throws everything into even more doubt, and frankly, the future of the multiverse feels incredibly unstable because of it. She’s a real wild card, and I’m both excited and terrified to see what she does next.
Pandora Defined the New 52 Era

Following the timeline changes caused by the Flashpoint event in 2011, DC Comics launched its biggest overhaul since Crisis on Infinite Earths. This reboot, known as the New 52, proved highly divisive among fans. Many beloved characters had their histories erased and reimagined with a grimmer tone. While the New 52 lasted until 2016, it was ultimately replaced by the Rebirth storyline due to problems with continuity and declining sales. Despite the controversy, the New 52 was a significant era for DC, and a key character within it was the enigmatic Pandora.
Inspired by the Greek myth, Pandora is an ancient woman who accidentally released the Seven Deadly Sins into the world. As punishment, she was cursed to live forever with burning scars, forced to witness the suffering caused by the Sins. For centuries, she’s worked from the shadows to lessen the damage they inflict. While her history and reasons for acting were once mysterious, it’s now known that she played a key role in shaping the New 52 universe.
The New 52 initiative significantly changed the DC Universe by incorporating characters and storylines from two other popular comic imprints: Wildstorm and Vertigo. Heroes like those from the Authority and WildC.A.T.S. were reimagined within the DC world. The merging of these universes was eventually tied to the character Pandora, who used her magic while the Flash altered time to unite them against a hidden danger. Beyond this major change, Pandora became a key figure in several important DC titles and events, including Justice League Dark, Phantom Stranger, “Trinity War,” and Forever Evil. Very few characters have had such a widespread influence on the DC Universe.
Pandora played a hidden but crucial role in nearly everything that happened in the New 52 DC Universe, influencing events from behind the scenes and even participating in major conflicts. Because of this central connection, when DC ended the New 52, Pandora had to be eliminated. Despite many mysteries surrounding her origins and future, she was abruptly killed off in 2016’s DC Universe: Rebirth #1 by Doctor Manhattan, who needed to remove her influence to reshape the universe. Her death marked the end of the New 52 and the start of the Rebirth era. Now, after a decade, it looks like Pandora is poised for a comeback.
What Pandora’s Return Could Mean for the Absolute Crisis

DC Comics is intentionally keeping Pandora’s role in the next Crisis a mystery, adding to her importance. Aside from a brief, silent appearance, DC hasn’t explained how she returned or what she’ll do now that she’s back. But, based on her history in the New 52, she’s likely to be a key and powerful figure in the upcoming multiversal event.
When trying to figure out how Pandora will impact the upcoming Absolute Crisis, the biggest question is whether she’ll be an ally or an enemy. She briefly appeared in DC K.O. #5 while Darkseid was explaining his plan to conquer everything, and her presence suggests she’s working with him. There are a couple of reasons why she might join forces with Darkseid. He could have manipulated her, like he did with the Legion of Superheroes. Or, similar to the Pariah in Dark Crisis, she might have her own goals for changing reality and needs Darkseid’s help to achieve them.
Pandora has consistently been a key figure in the stories she’s involved in, and the upcoming Absolute Crisis will likely be no different. Her role could signal another subtle reimagining of the DC Universe, potentially bringing back characters and ideas from the earlier New 52 era. Or, Darkseid might be exploiting her link to the Seven Deadly Sins to spread corruption across the multiverse. Given the New 52’s tendency to present darker versions of classic heroes – a trait shared with the current Absolute Universe – Pandora may have even played a role in shaping that earlier universe. Of course, it’s also possible she’s secretly planning to double-cross Darkseid and help Earth’s heroes win.
Pandora remains an enigmatic figure, with many questions about her story left unresolved when the New 52 Universe ended. The upcoming Absolute Crisis event could provide a way to bring her back into the DC Universe, potentially as a hero or a villain. While her exact role is unknown, her return clearly signals a massive, universe-altering shift for DC Comics, meaning things will never be quite the same.
