3 Reasons Why the Jujutsu Kaisen Sequel’s Ending Is Better Than the Original

Following the conclusion of Jujutsu Kaisen in late 2024, creator Gege Akutami returned with a sequel a year later. However, this new series was designed to be short-lived, lasting only six months and consisting of 25 chapters before ending on March 8, 2026. Given the mixed reactions to the original series’ ending, fans were eager to see how the sequel would conclude.

Generally, the sequel was clearly planned with its ending in focus from the beginning, resulting in a much stronger conclusion than the first installment. There are three main reasons why the ending of the Jujutsu Kaisen sequel is superior to the original.

3) Villain’s Goals

For a long time, it wasn’t obvious who the real villain of the original series was. At first, Kenjaku seemed like the main enemy, but it turned out Ryomen Sukuna was the final boss the heroes had to defeat. Although Sukuna was a strong choice for the ultimate threat, the story never fully explained his rise to power or why he became the main villain.

The second installment addresses this issue effectively. While the Simurians aren’t simply evil, they act as opponents to the human sorcerers, and their actions have a clear, understandable purpose. Unlike in the first story, their motivations are based on feelings, giving them a more believable reason for their conflict.

2) Clear Battles

In the first series, the villain Sukuna lacked a strong, understandable motive, making his ultimate goal and the reasons for his actions somewhat vague. This made it hard for viewers to connect with or even understand him. The fight against Sukuna ended up focusing more on how the sorcerers would win and his own arrogance, rather than why he was fighting. In contrast, the final two battles in Modulo had much clearer, driving purposes.

The Simurians wanted peace, so they challenged their opponents to a duel, with Dabura fighting on their behalf. Meanwhile, Yuka made a powerful, emotional move by releasing Mahoraga, raising the stakes of the main battle. Adding to the intensity, Maru and Tsurugi fought a separate battle, driven by their loyalty to family. Although the battles in the continuation of the story might not be as visually spectacular as those in the original Jujutsu Kaisen, they have a stronger, more defined purpose.

1) Effective Conclusion

The sequel’s ending is more satisfying because it offers a clearer resolution to the central idea of the Jujutsu Kaisen series. Yuji Itadori and Maru create a plan to get rid of cursed energy in humans, which would stop cursed spirits from being born. Although the Jujutsu Kaisen world won’t change overnight and some safety measures will still be needed, the sequel establishes a path toward removing cursed energy and ultimately creating a normal society.

The original Jujutsu Kaisen series ended with Ryomen Sukuna’s defeat, but didn’t explore much beyond that. It implied that cursed spirits and sorcerers would simply become a part of everyday life, even for those without magical abilities. This left the core ideas of the story unresolved and the final battle’s purpose unclear. The sequel’s ending, by offering a more complete and satisfying resolution, feels much stronger and more effective.
