One Piece: Straw Hat Pirates Ranked By How Important They Are

The Straw Hat Pirates are the main characters in One Piece, and each one has their own unique part to play in the story. They join Luffy on his adventure for personal reasons, but also because they think he’s the only one who can achieve his dream of becoming the Pirate King. When they first started, the crew only had five members, including Luffy. But as their journey progresses, more people with their own hopes and ambitions decide to join him on his quest.

Each member of the crew has unique dreams that shape who they are, making them more complex and relatable. These aspirations also strengthen their bond with Luffy, who empowers them to achieve their goals. While Luffy needs his crew to become Pirate King, the story emphasizes that every member is essential and contributes in a meaningful way.

9) Usopp

Usopp is the crew’s sniper and a close friend Luffy relies on. While he’s excellent at long-range attacks, he’s not very strong in hand-to-hand combat. He used to be responsible for maintaining the Going Merry, but now Franky handles ship maintenance. Franky not only built their current ship, the Thousand Sunny, but also keeps it in top condition.

8) Brook

From the start, Luffy wanted a musician on his pirate ship, and he finally got one when Brook joined during the Thriller Bark adventure. Brook is a skilled fighter and his unique abilities from his Devil Fruit often save the crew. However, he doesn’t contribute to navigating and finding treasure as much as the other members.

7) Jinbe

Jinbe hasn’t been a Straw Hat Pirate as long as the others. Luffy always wanted him on the crew, but Jinbe only officially joined during the Wano arc. Although he’s a vital helmsman, he simply hasn’t had enough time with the crew to become as prominent as the long-standing members.

6) Roronoa Zoro

Zoro is Luffy’s most trusted first mate and does more than just fight with swords. He’s always ready to jump into battle and, just as importantly, supports and encourages Luffy when he’s struggling. Because he’s striving to be the world’s greatest swordsman, Zoro is Luffy’s strongest and most reliable ally.

5) Sanji

Luffy’s crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, relies heavily on both Zoro and Sanji, and it’s clear why. While Zoro is the stronger fighter, Sanji is an exceptional cook – even better than Zoro in that area. Having a chef is essential for survival at sea, and Sanji doesn’t just prepare meals, he ensures the crew stays healthy and well-nourished.

4) Tony Tony Chopper

Chopper has been a lifesaver for the Straw Hats ever since he helped Nami reach Alabasta. He’s repeatedly saved his friends and others, proving he’s an incredibly talented doctor. While his dream of finding cures for all diseases is ambitious, Chopper is determined and capable of achieving it.

3) Franky

The crew relies heavily on Franky to keep their ship in good condition, and without him, traveling through dangerous waters would be nearly impossible. The New World is much harsher than the earlier parts of their journey, and most ships couldn’t survive it. Luckily, Franky built the Thousand Sunny using Adam Wood, a remarkably strong material previously used for Gol D. Roger’s ship, which successfully sailed around the entire world.

2) Nami

Nami is an incredibly skilled navigator who expertly guides the ship through dangerous waters. She also manages all of the crew’s money. From the start, she’s been essential in supporting Luffy and trying to keep his impulsive nature under control. Importantly, Nami is the only one who can chart the course to Laughtale – the island where the famous treasure is hidden.

1) Nico Robin

Ever since Ohara was destroyed, Robin is practically the only one left who can really read Poneglyphs – she’s amazing! It’s incredible because she holds the key to unlocking the secrets of the Void Century, and even more exciting, she’s the one who can decipher the Road Poneglyphs, which point the way to Laugh Tale. Once she cracks those, Nami’s navigation skills come in, and together they’re absolutely essential for guiding the crew to the final island. Seriously, those two are irreplaceable when it comes to finding the One Piece!
