Fans are eagerly awaiting the 2026 release of Avengers: Doomsday, and any news about the movie quickly grabs their attention. This film is a significant part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, kicking off a two-part finale to the Multiverse Saga. A particularly exciting announcement is Robert Downey Jr.’s return – but not as Iron Man. He’ll be playing Doctor Doom, bringing the classic Marvel villain to life in the live-action movies for the first time.
Details about the new villain and what he’ll look like have been limited, but one fan thinks they’ve gotten an early preview. An X (formerly Twitter) user named @RealJoseObregon found a keychain advertised as official Avengers: Doomsday merchandise featuring Doctor Doom. Although it’s just a small part of his face visible beneath his mask, it could be the first official look at how Doctor Doom will appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
I just spotted a Doctor Doom keychain at Spencer’s, where they’re selling official Avengers-themed ‘doomsday’ merchandise. It looks like an official representation of the character!

What We Can Learn From Doomsday’s Doctor Doom Merch Reveal

A recently revealed keychain appears to be a first look at Robert Downey Jr.’s version of Doctor Doom. While it doesn’t reveal much, it suggests the character’s design in Avengers: Doomsday will be very faithful to his classic comic book appearance, which should please fans.
Fans have often expressed their dissatisfaction with how Doctor Doom has been portrayed in past films. Julian McMahon’s interpretation in the 2005 Fantastic Four and its sequel, Rise of the Silver Surfer, didn’t resonate well, especially the storyline where Doom’s armor was fusing with his body. The 2015 Fantastic Four reboot, directed by Josh Trank, faced even more criticism for straying significantly from the comic book version of the character. Now, it appears the Marvel Cinematic Universe is taking these past reactions into account.
It’s understandable that some fans have mixed feelings about Robert Downey Jr. returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, especially after his memorable performance as Iron Man. While there’s concern his new role could diminish Tony Stark’s legacy, the latest information suggests his villain, Doctor Doom, will have a look that’s faithful to the comic books. While a visually accurate design isn’t everything for a good Avengers: Doomsday villain, it’s a positive sign that the filmmakers are approaching the character with care.
