Scrubs Season 11 Renewal Chances Officially Addressed by Creator After the Revival’s Ratings Were Revealed

The original Scrubs series is well-known for its unique style – a funny, often silly comedy mixed with realistic hospital drama. It stayed popular for almost ten years, but a misguided attempt at launching a spin-off in the ninth season turned viewers away and ended the show on a disappointing note. Now, after 16 years, the comedy is back on ABC and Hulu, bringing together the original doctors and completely ignoring that unpopular finale. Even though only three episodes have been released so far, critics and longtime fans are already celebrating the show’s return to its former glory. This positive response has led to a huge increase in viewers, demonstrating that there’s still a strong demand for Scrubs.

Series creator Bill Lawrence expressed optimism about the show’s future, telling Deadline that the team is planning for more than just one installment of the revival. The Scrubs revival premiere drew over 11 million viewers across all platforms, making a renewal very likely. If viewership remains strong in the coming weeks, the studio is expected to order additional episodes beyond the currently planned nine.

Scrubs Deserves More Seasons

As a huge fan, I have to say the new season of Scrubs totally delivers! I was worried it would just be a trip down memory lane, but it’s actually really smart and tackles some tough issues with the healthcare system today. It’s not just funny; it feels relevant. What’s even better is seeing how the original characters have grown – they’ve had time to evolve, and it makes their humor feel more grounded and meaningful. And the new interns? They’re fantastic! They add a fresh energy without overshadowing the stories we already love. It’s a really satisfying revival, and it proves the show still has something to say.

Bringing Scrubs back is also important for giving beloved characters the storylines they deserve. Currently, the limited number of episodes makes it hard to feature them fully—for example, Neil Flynn’s Janitor is reduced to smaller appearances, hindering the exploration of his famous rivalry with J.D. (Zach Braff). Plus, Lawrence has stated that scheduling difficulties previously prevented Ken Jenkins from returning as Dr. Kelso. However, he’s promised Kelso will be back next season if the show is renewed. Ultimately, a quick renewal would allow these key characters to return properly and ensure the show’s lasting success.

Scrubs is currently airing on ABC and streaming on Hulu.
