7th Heaven’s Beverley Mitchell Details Colon Cancer Scare

Beverley Mitchellis turning a terrifying experience into a moment of advocacy.

To help people feel more comfortable about getting colonoscopies, the actress from 7th Heaven shared that doctors discovered a potentially cancerous growth in her colon during a routine checkup when she was in her early thirties.

Beverley recently had a colonoscopy and shared about it on Instagram because she wants to help people who might be scared or embarrassed to get one. She explained that years ago, a doctor noticed something in her blood work that suggested a possible risk of colon cancer, and she wants to normalize talking about these things. She said she feels no shame in sharing her experience.

After receiving concerning test results, the 45-year-old mother—who shares three children, Kenzie (13), Hutton (11), and Mayzel (5), with her husband, Michael Cameron—immediately asked her doctor for a colonoscopy, and the doctor agreed it was a good idea.

It turns out I had a very large precancerous polyp – the biggest the doctor had ever seen in someone my age. I really believe I saved my own life by speaking up and insisting on getting checked. I had a follow-up colonoscopy three years later, and thankfully, everything was clear.

Beverley shared that she’d been putting off a necessary medical check-up and recently had a colonoscopy, eight years after a previous health scare. While she’d noticed several reminders to schedule an appointment, it was the heartbreaking loss of James Van Der Beek to colorectal cancer in February that finally motivated her to get it done.

She urged everyone to get screened for colon cancer and, if recommended, to follow through with a colonoscopy and listen to the doctor’s advice. She shared that her own colonoscopy results were clear, meaning she only needs to repeat the screening every five years and is no longer considered high-risk. She emphasized that delaying these important health checks won’t improve things – it will likely make any potential problems worse.

The actor from Saw II concluded the video with a direct message: “If you’ve been delaying your colonoscopy, please schedule it now.”

Beverley has faced health concerns before; she previously had a frightening experience when doctors suspected skin cancer during her third pregnancy.

In 2020, the host of Catching Up With the Camdens told Us Weekly she was focused on addressing a health issue during her pregnancy. She explained that she’s learned to focus on what she can control and accept what she can’t, which has helped her cope with challenges.
