ACE Team and Nacon have revealed that their 40-player co-op horror game, The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, will launch on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on July 15th. A new trailer showcasing gameplay from a recent beta, featuring streamers trying to survive the game’s challenges, has also been released. You can watch it below.
The new trailer for The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu highlights the game’s disturbing elements, including intense hallucinations. Players might experience visions like seeing a friend engulfed in tentacles or encountering bizarre creatures, such as a massive millipede. Enemies will vary greatly, ranging from common zombies and skeletons to more dangerous opponents that can use tentacles to immobilize players.
ACE Team recently announced the release date for their new game and shared more about the story and what drives players to explore the unsettling island. The main objective is to collect as much treasure as possible, but players will also search for a lost person and an old fort. From the moment they arrive, a sense of unease begins to build.
Players start by choosing a mission before heading to the island. It’s important to finish quickly, though, because the longer you stay, the more dangerous things will appear. You’ll have limited space for items, and fighting mostly involves protecting yourself instead of attacking.
In The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu, characters can lose their minds if they experience too much horror. This is represented by a sanity system where initial effects are minor, like seeing things that aren’t there. But as sanity decreases, things get much worse – players might mistake friends for monsters, or even walk off cliffs thinking it’s solid ground.
The game involves a core loop where players venture out to collect treasure, then race back to their boat to deposit it. This is similar to games like ARC Raiders. If players fail to reach the boat, they’ll lose everything they’ve collected.
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s story The Mound. It follows a character who discovers a mysterious, haunted hill that opens the way to a terrifying underground world and its long-lost residents.
The game was originally shown in November 2025 during an Xbox event. A trailer offered the first glimpse of how it plays and the world it’s set in. It appears to capture the unsettling and frightening atmosphere found in the stories of H.P. Lovecraft, featuring intense hallucinations that can distort a player’s perception of reality.
