
Resident Evil Requiem offers several difficulty levels that change how you play, making enemies tougher or supplies harder to find for a greater challenge. While the mix of action and horror is enjoyable at any level, some difficulties are very restrictive or very forgiving. There isn’t much of a balance for players wanting a moderate experience – it’s either quite easy or very difficult.
Resident Evil Requiem currently offers three difficulty levels: Casual, Standard, and Insanity. Casual mode prioritizes story and is very easy, featuring auto-aim to help you defeat enemies. Standard mode is a bit more challenging and lets you choose between modern controls or classic, limited saves—a feature long-time fans will recognize. Insanity mode unlocks after completing the game and is designed for experienced players, allowing you to use upgraded weapons and tools against much tougher enemies.
Resident Evil Requiem’s Difficulty Modes Are Either Too Easy Or Far Too Difficult With No In-Between

Beating Resident Evil Requiem on Casual or Standard mode is quite manageable, and even the recommended difficulty isn’t too hard if you’re good at finding resources. Exploring thoroughly will keep you well-supplied with ammo, which is especially helpful during the more difficult parts when playing as Leon and needing extra firepower. When you have enough ammo, Leon’s weapons can quickly defeat even the strongest enemies, and he generally faces more opponents than Grace does.
Casual mode is very easy because enemies have so little health. Even though Standard mode includes Ink Ribbons, it doesn’t significantly increase the difficulty. Standard mode does save less often, but you can craft plenty of Ink Ribbons if you collect the necessary resources. Regardless of whether you play on Casual or Standard, the puzzles and item locations remain the same, and the absence of Ink Ribbons on Classic or Modern modes doesn’t change things, so you can easily strategize even after dying.
Unlike Casual and Standard modes, Insanity difficulty is extremely challenging, creating a huge leap in difficulty. Its increased enemy health, altered secrets, and limited item availability feel unfair instead of engaging. It often seems designed for players using cheats like Infinite Ammo or powerful weapons earned in New Game+, rather than providing the skillful resource management that Resident Evil fans would anticipate.
An Intermediate Difficulty Could Provide A Classic Resident Evil Experience That Feels Just Right

Many players have proposed a new difficulty level between Standard and Insanity, perhaps called “Hardcore,” with options for Modern or Classic gameplay styles. This would address the issue with Standard mode being too easy due to abundant resources. A “Hardcore” mode would make ammo and supplies much scarcer, but unlike the extremely limited resources on Insanity, it would still provide a reasonable amount, rewarding players for effectively managing what they find.
Many players find enemies in Insanity mode have too much health and are hard to stun, making it much tougher than Standard difficulty. Instead of such large difficulty jumps, adding more varied and manageable challenges could create a fun and less frustrating experience. Given that Resident Evil Requiem is shorter than other games in the series, a new difficulty setting would also be a great way to add more content before any downloadable updates are released.
A medium difficulty setting could make Ink Ribbons harder to get, creating a more old-school Resident Evil feel compared to the standard game. While the standard mode lets you craft Ink Ribbons fairly easily, a harder mode could limit them to items you find instead. By adjusting puzzles, item drops, and other small details, the game could offer a truly classic experience for longtime fans and better balance the difficulty levels.
Both the Leon and Grace sections offer a good level of challenge, but increasing the difficulty slightly in each—without making them too hard—could be really engaging for experienced players. Adding a new intermediate difficulty level to Resident Evil Requiem would also be a great way to add more content and give players a reason to replay the game.
