Call the Midwife finale, The Capture and ITV’s Gone overnight ratings revealed after dramatic Sunday night of TV

Sunday night (March 8th) offered compelling television, with the season finale of Call the Midwife and the debuts of The Capture season 3 and Gone attracting a large audience.

The season 15 finale of Call the Midwife brought several storylines to a close, including Sister Veronica’s desire to have a child, the difficulties faced by Cyril and Rosalind in their relationship, and Sister Catherine’s personal struggles within the Order. The episode also featured a very sad death.

The episode attracted 4.42 million viewers on BBC1, making it the most-watched program of the evening. This number is comparable to the viewership of both installments of the show’s 2025 Christmas special.

The third season of The Capture started with 1.84 million viewers on BBC1. Holliday Grainger returned as detective Rachel Carey, with the new season picking up several months after the events that exposed ‘Correction’ at the end of season 2.

This episode centers on Carey as she confronts a dangerous situation: a terrorist attack during a press conference announcing a new, supposedly unhackable, two-way camera surveillance system.

ITV1’s new psychological crime thriller, Gone, debuted with 1.72 million viewers.

The series begins with headmaster Michael Polly (David Morrissey) coming home to find his wife has disappeared. This starts a missing person’s case, which will soon become a murder investigation led by Detective Sergeant Annie Cassidy (Eve Myles).

New episodes of The Capture will be released every Sunday at 9pm on BBC One. You can also watch each episode from 6am on the same day on BBC iPlayer.

The show no longer airs two episodes each week on Sunday and Monday evenings at 9pm. Instead, all episodes are now available to stream online as a complete set on ITVX, allowing viewers to watch them all at once.

Call the Midwife seasons 1-15 are available to stream now on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.

The Capture season 3 will continue on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Sunday 15 March 2026.

Gone continues on Monday 9 March at 9pm on ITV1.
