Atlus might be planning to bring back Digital Devil Saga, based on a recent announcement of a new port of the game.
A somewhat obscure spin-off game called Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner: A’s Test Server is getting a re-release on PC and Nintendo Switch, but currently only in Japan.
This game first appeared on mobile devices in 2006 and was originally offered with a monthly subscription. It tells a new story where the heroes from the main game explore a massive tower.
A full version of the game came out in 2007, and this new release is built on that version.
It’s a bit of a guess, but it’s possible this relates to remasters of Digital Devil Saga, and there’s some reasoning behind that idea.
Atlus has demonstrated a clear interest in revisiting its classic games, particularly those originally released on the PlayStation 2. The recent remaster of Radiata Stories suggests that its sequel will likely receive a similar update soon.
The two Digital Devil Saga games are favorites among dedicated Shin Megami Tensei fans, and we think players who enjoy the more recent Persona games would likely appreciate them too, especially because of their focus on characters and their stories.
Okay, so just a heads-up for anyone excited about A’s Test Server – Atlus isn’t actually the one re-releasing it! It’s being handled by another Japanese company called G-Mode, which is doing the porting. I was a little confused at first, but that’s the deal!
The timing of this seems a little suspicious, and given what we’ve discussed, we wouldn’t be shocked if Atlus has a surprise in the works.
What are your thoughts on this recent release? Does it suggest something larger is coming, or are we getting our hopes up? Share your favorite tracks from the Digital Devil Saga soundtrack in the comments!
