Jonathan Ross reveals his predictions for the 2026 Oscars including best actor pick because of “very showy performance”

What’s the view from your sofa?

Okay, so I’ll admit, my wife, Jane, and I aren’t exactly setting a good example when it comes to bedtime routines. We mostly watch TV in bed. It sounds ridiculous, but we have this huge TV that actually rises up from the foot of the bed – a bit over the top, I know! The problem is, our two dogs always plant themselves right in front of the screen, and then, as the night goes on, the cats join the party and basically demand their dinner while we’re trying to watch. If there are subtitles? Forget about it. It’s a constant battle to actually read them with all the furry bodies wandering around!

What have you been enjoying watching from your bed?

I’m really enjoying ‘The Pitt,’ which feels like a follow-up to ‘ER.’ I’m already halfway through season two and it’s fantastic – Noah Wyle is great in it. I always watch ‘Gogglebox,’ and I recently had fun watching ‘Steal with Sophie Turner’ on Prime. My friend Jane and I both like horror, so we’ve been watching ‘Evil,’ which is similar to ‘The X-Files’ but focuses on the Catholic Church and demonic possession.

Who controls the remote?

Jane’s usually in charge, which works for me – I’ll honestly watch just about anything! I often have my phone out while watching TV, and she gets frustrated, asking if I’m even paying attention. I’ll quickly say I am and pretend I was just checking a message from the kids. But then she’ll catch me watching silly videos, like one of a cat falling down, and it’s hard to look away!

You’re the host of “Handcuffed: Last Pair Standing,” a reality show on Channel 4 where very different people are physically linked together and have to spend two weeks getting along. If you were on the show, who would be the absolute worst person to be handcuffed to?

I generally get along well with people and consider myself pretty easygoing. However, I think it would be difficult to be around anyone constantly, even my wife. Hosting talk shows has taught me that my own opinions aren’t the most important thing. When someone says something I disagree with, I’m more interested in understanding why they believe it, rather than simply proving them wrong. I try to explore their perspective and how they came to their conclusions.

Many of the participants believe Britain is facing serious problems. Do you share that opinion?

You’re also hosting ITV’s coverage of the Oscars. Who do you tip to win?

The race for Best Picture is tight between two films: Sinners, which I believe might be more popular with American audiences than it was here, and One Battle after Another, which I’m leaning towards winning. While I personally enjoyed Sinners a bit more – it felt like a fresh take on a familiar genre – One Battle after Another is a well-made and entertaining film, though perhaps not a groundbreaking one, and that’s perfectly okay.

Michael B. Jordan could win Best Actor with such a captivating performance, but Leonardo DiCaprio is also a strong contender. Sometimes people let their opinions of his personal life overshadow the fact that he’s a truly talented actor.
