Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, Cartoon Network was a major force in children’s television. Shows like Dexter’s Laboratory, Powerpuff Girls, and Ed, Edd n Eddy made it a hugely popular channel and shaped the childhoods of many. However, these classic programs have become increasingly difficult to find. After briefly disappearing from streaming services in 2025, a key part of Cartoon Network’s golden age is now available again, and it’s still just as enjoyable as ever.
Get ready to revisit the spooky world of Courage the Cowardly Dog! All four seasons of the classic Cartoon Network show are now available to stream on Tubi. After disappearing from HBO Max last summer, all 52 episodes returned on March 1st. The series, which originally aired from 1999 to 2002, follows Courage, a fearful dog who bravely defends his elderly owners against strange and terrifying creatures from the worlds of the paranormal, supernatural, and science fiction.
Courage the Cowardly Dog Traumatized a Generation of Viewers
Horror in kids’ shows isn’t quite as impactful as it once was. The late 90s and early 2000s were great at introducing kids to scary stories, and Courage the Cowardly Dog was a standout example – it genuinely frightened a whole generation. The show didn’t shy away from being truly scary, with a creepy atmosphere woven into everything. The remote farmhouse setting added to the eerie, surreal feeling, making the horror even more intense. Even the unique animation style, mixing traditional 2D with unsettling 3D, contributed to a strangely uncomfortable vibe.
With its weekly monster stories, Courage the Cowardly Dog featured some truly memorable and unsettling CGI villains, including characters like King Ramses, Freaky Fred, and the floating head from “The House of Discontent.” Many episodes, such as “The Mask” and “The House of Discontent,” are still genuinely creepy even now. Overall, Courage the Cowardly Dog was a uniquely brilliant show for the ’90s that was surprisingly innovative and left a lasting impact by challenging the limits of what was considered acceptable for children’s television.
