The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Gets its Final Trailer Ahead of Theatrical Release in April

Illumination and Nintendo just dropped the final trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which is set to hit theaters in April. You can watch it below!

Illumination and Nintendo announced the voice cast for the upcoming movie, including Donald Glover as Yoshi, Issa Rae as Honey Queen, and Luis Guzmán as Wart. They also shared that the Nintendo Today! app will feature more information about the movie before it comes out.

The trailer gives us a glimpse of the movie’s beginning, explaining how Mario gets caught up in a space adventure. When Bowser Jr. steals Princess Peach’s castle and carries it into space, Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi follow, eventually crash-landing on a strange planet covered in enormous flowers.

The trailer introduces several new characters the team will meet on their journey across planets, including Rosalina and various Luma. It also suggests Baby Mario might appear, potentially hinting at surprising story developments.

So, Nintendo announced a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie back in September – it’s called The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and is coming out in April 2026! From what I’ve heard, it’s really taking inspiration from the Super Mario Galaxy games on the Wii, which is awesome. The best part? Most of the original cast is coming back! Chris Pratt will be Mario again, Charlie Day is Luigi, Anya Taylor-Joy is Peach, Jack Black is Bowser, and Keegan-Michael Key and Kevin Michael Richardson are reprising their roles as Toad and Kamek. I’m already hyped!

Even before the movie’s title was announced in October 2024, Key mentioned the Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel would have a larger story and take place in a fascinating new location.

He mentioned the second movie expands on the original, exploring a fascinating and detailed Mario universe. He also hinted at lots of hidden surprises, or ‘Easter eggs,’ for fans, and described the production so far as very exciting.

The movie will feature both beloved, well-known characters and some lesser-known faces from the extensive history of the Mario universe.

He explained that the creators have significantly expanded the world these characters inhabit, and we’ll be introduced to both familiar and lesser-known characters. He believes the way the story is unfolding will make these new additions particularly interesting.

Before the movie comes out next month, check out our guide to Super Mario Galaxy + Galaxy 2 on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2. It’s a remastered version of the classic games with a new assist mode to make it easier for beginners.
