Since debuting in 1960, the Justice League has been DC Comics’ most iconic superhero team. It started with just seven members, but quickly grew to include many more powerful and popular heroes. Now known as Justice League Unlimited, the team is larger than ever, with dozens of members. Despite this, some former Justice Leaguers haven’t returned, and their interesting backstories, unique personalities, and compelling designs make them worthy of another chance on the team.
As a lifelong comic book fan, I’ve always been fascinated by the Justice League – they’ve had so many members over the years! With icons like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman leading the charge, it’s easy for some really cool heroes to get overlooked and kind of forgotten. Honestly, I think DC should really bring some of those sidelined Justice Leaguers back into the spotlight – they deserve a bigger role in future stories, in my opinion.
5) Element Woman

During the ‘Flashpoint’ event, a female version of the hero Metamorpho, known as Element Woman, was introduced. Surprisingly, she remained in the DC Universe even after the ‘Flashpoint’ timeline was reset with the New 52 reboot. She became a member of both the Justice League and the Doom Patrol. Besides being able to transform into any element or compound she could think of, Element Woman’s energetic and quirky personality made her a popular team member. Unfortunately, the character was later underused. Even a 2025 appearance in ‘Metamorpho: The Element Man #5,’ where she voiced her frustration at being forgotten, didn’t lead to a more prominent role, and DC seemed to ignore her once again. With her unique abilities and engaging personality, Element Woman deserves more attention.
4) Zauriel

As a longtime comic fan, I’ve always found Zauriel to be a really interesting Justice League member. Created by Grant Morrison as something of a fill-in for Hawkman, he instantly stood out because, well, he’s an angel! His story is actually pretty tragic – he gave up his divinity to be with the woman he loved and live on Earth. Once he joined the League, he quickly became their go-to guy for anything dealing with the supernatural, and even had his own short series! It’s a shame that after the Flashpoint event, he basically disappeared into comic book obscurity, joining the ranks of forgotten characters. Honestly, with his unique history and powers, he’d be perfect for a team like Justice League Dark. It feels like a missed opportunity!
3) Jarro

Though he’s tiny, Jarro is an incredibly powerful hero and a member of the Justice League. He’s a clone of the villain Starro, but unlike his ‘parent,’ Jarro is kind-hearted. Batman raised him like a son, and Jarro wants to be just like Robin. Fans immediately loved his funny personality and touching story. Despite playing a key role in major events like “Totality” and Dark Knights: Death Metal thanks to his psychic powers, DC Comics seems to have forgotten about him. Jarro’s unique personality could add much-needed humor to the current Justice League Unlimited series.
2) Vibe

Vibe has always had potential as a Justice League member, but he’s often been overlooked. Originally possessing the power to create seismic waves, he briefly joined the Justice League Detroit before being killed off. The New 52 reboot gave Vibe a second chance, developing him into a funnier, more complex character with his own comic series and a spot on a government-backed Justice League team. He even gained the ability to open portals to different realities, significantly boosting his powers. Sadly, this resurgence in popularity didn’t last, and Vibe has once again faded into the background. Given DC’s frequent use of multiverse storylines, it’s surprising he isn’t featured more often.
1) Manitou Dawn

As a comic book fan, it always struck me how few Native American heroes DC has. But Manitou Dawn was a really fascinating character. She was a powerful sorceress, originally from way back in 1000 BC, and an outsider in her tribe until she met and married another magic user, Manitou Raven. Things got wild when the Justice League accidentally pulled them both forward in time! Dawn actually adjusted to modern life pretty well, but sadly, her husband didn’t. After Raven tragically died in battle, Dawn really struggled to feel like she could live up to his heroic reputation. It was a compelling story, but unfortunately, DC just… dropped her. It’s a shame, because with her unique powers, deep connection to Native American history, and just a really engaging personality, I think Manitou Dawn deserves another shot at being a prominent hero.
