As a critic, I’ve noticed March often falls into a bit of a lull – the big awards contenders have had their run, and summer blockbusters are still on the horizon. But don’t let that fool you – there’s actually a surprising amount of interesting cinema hitting UK screens this month for those of us who love film!
Maggie Gyllenhaal’s film The Bride and Pixar’s new animated movie Hoppers are already out, and the Peaky Blinders sequel, The Immortal Man, is now playing in theaters before coming to Netflix on March 20th.
Everyone’s talking about “Project Hail Mary” as the must-see movie for the next few weeks. It’s a big science fiction adventure based on the popular novel by Andy Weir, who also wrote “The Martian.” Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the film stars Ryan Gosling and is already getting rave reviews.
I’m really excited about a couple of new releases! There’s a gripping thriller with Stephen Graham and Andrea Riseborough that looks fantastic, and a highly-rated comedy starring Dakota Johnson and Adria Arjona. Plus, if you’re into Colleen Hoover’s books like so many are, there’s another film adaptation coming out, this one with Maika Monroe taking the lead.
Horror fans can anticipate the sequel to “Ready or Not,” titled “Here I Come.” And for family-friendly entertainment, a new adaptation of an Enid Blyton story is also coming soon. There’s something for everyone!
We’ve chosen some of the best movies to watch this month to help you decide what to see. You can watch our recommendations in the video above, or keep reading for our picks.

After the success of her first film, The Lost Daughter, Maggie Gyllenhaal directs a bold and energetic new take on the classic story of Frankenstein’s bride, featuring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale.
This film, set in 1930s America, reimagines Frankenstein and his Bride as a couple on the run, committing crimes together much like Bonnie and Clyde. It’s visually striking and features a unique, bold style.
Hoppers

Pixar’s newest movie is about a girl who builds a device that lets her transfer her consciousness into a realistic robotic beaver. This allows her to talk to animals and work with them to protect their home from being destroyed by a new construction project.

I’m so excited about this new movie! It stars Dakota Johnson and Adria Arjona, and it’s a really clever comedy directed by Michael Angelo Covino. It’s about a couple who decides to try an open marriage, but things get complicated – it’s funny and relatable, and I’ve heard amazing things!
