In the Elbaf Arc of One Piece, the truth about King Harald’s death 14 years prior is being uncovered. Adored by his people, Harald worked tirelessly to establish an education system within his kingdom and promoted diplomacy and trade with other nations. His son, Loki, on the other hand, was notorious for causing trouble wherever he went, earning him the title of the Cursed Prince. The Giants had grown tired of Loki even before Harald’s demise, but they couldn’t stop him due to his power. Following Harald’s death, however, the Giants made a concerted effort to apprehend Loki, suspecting him not only of assassinating their king, but also of killing the 113 soldiers in Aurust Castle 14 years ago.
Six years past, I found myself on an island where the blame for a friend’s head injury lay with none other than Loki. In a twist of fate, I was compelled to flee the island myself. It turns out that back then, Shanks had seized Loki and delivered him into the hands of the Giants. Ever since Luffy arrived on the island and liberated the Giant Prince, Loki has been imprisoned in the Underworld.
Luffy sought to learn more about Shanks’ whereabouts, so he freed the Giant Prince. There were hints along the way, but it wasn’t until Chapter 1152 of One Piece that it was confirmed: Loki didn’t slay Harald; instead, something unforeseen transpired within the castle all those years ago.
One Piece Chapter 1152 Unveils the Events of 14 Years Ago
Following Gaban’s disclosure about the strange Haki detected 14 years past, Hajrudin compels Loki to share all details of the event. To date, only Loki and Jarul possess knowledge of the incident, yet they have remained tight-lipped about it. Nevertheless, Loki displays resistance to revisit the terror of that fateful day. The narrative then transitions into a flashback, depicting Loki and Jarul journeying to meet the king. Loki voices his disillusionment towards his father, who bartered his soul to the World Government.
Upon rushing into the throne room following a disturbance, they found Harald being impaled by numerous Giant soldiers, which left them utterly puzzled. The narrative subsequently moves to Gaban’s residence, where he and Shanks were relaxing in a hot spring. Intrigued, Gaban inquired about Shanks’ thoughts on Harald. Shanks, the Yonko, disclosed their past encounter in Mariejois, where they had developed a good rapport, but there was something he couldn’t discuss there. It seemed that Harald needed to address an urgent matter with him, unaware that the king had recently been killed in his castle.
In a secret chamber filled with priceless artifacts, including the fabled cursed fruit, an individual slips in. The manga then delves into another flashback set 109 years earlier, during the height of the Giant Pirates’ reign. This narrative will unveil the reasons behind Harald’s widespread admiration among his subjects. Although not immediately revealed, the circumstances surrounding Harald’s demise and the true culprits remain a mystery. At that time, Harald had already claimed the throne of Elbaf, but he was known for his unpleasant demeanor, often engaging in destruction and proclaiming himself a deity. Future chapters are expected to unfold more details about his past and the transformation that led him to become such a person.
One Piece Still Has to Answer Many Questions About Harald’s Death
Although the narrative primarily delves into Harald’s past, the motive behind Loki being accused of his father’s murder remains unexplained. It appears that Gaban only partially understands the circumstances, yet suspects Loki’s innocence. Interestingly, Shanks, who was present with Gaban during the incident, seems to have more information about it than other Giants. Despite this, he apprehended and imprisoned Loki eight years later, an action that Shanks rarely takes without careful planning. Thus, it’s reasonable to speculate that Shanks has a well-thought-out plan that led to the events unfolding as they did.
It’s interesting to ponder why Jarul and Loki remained silent despite their apparent desire to speak up, especially since the accused seemed eager to avoid punishment without presenting any proof of his innocence. The connection between Harald and the World Government appears suspicious, yet thus far, the series has not depicted him as a crafty ruler. Instead, it seems likely that he was endeavoring to establish a harmonious relationship with them in order to facilitate global trade. Given Loki’s animosity towards the Holy Knights, there’s a strong possibility that Harald’s assassination was orchestrated by the World Government as a cunning plot. Moreover, it’s worth noting that the Holy Knights themselves were acquainted with Harald, which increases the suspicion surrounding his death.
