Made in Chelsea spin-off show confirmed to focus on star’s “brutal reality” after near-fatal sepsis infection

Channel 4 will soon air a two-part documentary series chronicling the lives of Sam and Alice Vanderpump as they cope with a serious, life-threatening illness Sam is facing.

Last year, Sam revealed he came close to death after experiencing liver and kidney failure, which led to sepsis. He described the experience as incredibly frightening, saying he genuinely believed he was going to die and felt his body couldn’t handle it. He recalled the doctor telling him his organs were failing, a moment that brought him to tears.

Sam’s illness stemmed from a rare genetic condition present at birth, and though his recovery was difficult, Alice provided crucial support. Unfortunately, last year brought difficult news: Sam needs a liver transplant.

This documentary follows Sam’s journey after a serious health crisis, showing his current wait for a liver transplant and how he’s preparing to become a father.

The two-part special follows Sam and Alice as they continue to build their life together, showcasing deeply personal moments like their wedding and the birth of their son. It also highlights the strong support they receive from family – Sam’s mother and aunt Lisa Vanderpump – and their close friends in Chelsea.

The film will also follow Sam as he begins the process of waiting for a transplant, including his visits to specialists at King’s College Hospital, and will shed light on the challenges faced by people on transplant waiting lists in the UK.

Clemency Green, from Channel 4, explained that the documentary aims to highlight the emotional difficulties people experience while waiting for an organ donor. She said it’s a privilege to be able to share Sam’s personal journey and his special moments with Alice, and that while fans of Made in Chelsea will enjoy it, the film offers a broader look at the hope and happiness that can exist even when dealing with a serious illness.

Helen Kruger Bratt, who leads UTAS UK productions, also said that Sam and Alice have very openly and bravely shared a deeply personal part of their lives with remarkable generosity.

This documentary explores the real-life experiences of people waiting for organ transplants and aims to raise awareness about organ donation. We’re honored that Sam shared his personal story with us, and we’re excited to be working with Channel 4 to bring it to viewers.
