The fourth season of this gripping Canadian horror-mystery series will introduce several new characters. A recently released trailer has sparked fan theories that one of these newcomers might fill the void left by a beloved character who previously died. The show, created by the team behind Lost, follows a diverse group of people mysteriously trapped in a remote, unnamed town. They have no memory of how they arrived and can’t find a way to leave.
Things get even more terrifying when the sun sets, as the town is invaded by violent, human-like spirits with unsettling, constant smiles, and no one knows how to stop them. Over three seasons, the remaining residents manage to create a small community. The trailer for Season 4, premiering on MGM+ on April 19th, introduces new characters who have arrived in this strange, unnamed town. A quick glimpse of one character in a priest’s robe has sparked fan theories that a long-awaited replacement for a beloved character may be on their way.
From Lost a Key Spiritual Figure in Season 1
Shaun Majumder plays Father Rudra Khatri, who is the trusted religious leader in town. He provides spiritual and emotional support to everyone, and is a particularly important source of calm and guidance for Sheriff Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau), helping the Sheriff effectively lead the community.
I was really invested in Father Khatri – he seemed like he was going to be a huge player in unraveling the show’s central mystery. Plus, he was just a genuinely good guy, always calm and reasonable, which made him instantly likable. That’s why it was such a gut punch when they killed him off in Season 1, Episode 7. He died trying to protect those refugees at Colony House, and honestly, it was a total shocker.
Father Khatri was among the first to die, and his shocking death deeply affected the town and the show’s storyline. His loss left the town without a strong moral center, and the series demonstrated that any character could be killed off. Despite dying early on, Father Khatri continues to be a significant figure in the narrative.
Majumder keeps appearing, sometimes as a vision, possibly hinting that Khatri, even in death, still has a significant part to play in the overall narrative. The introduction of a new priest suggests we might finally see the Khatri storyline resolved.
From Asks Big Questions About Religion and Spirituality
The show ‘From’ consistently explores themes of faith, and the death of Father Khatri deeply affected many of the characters. Boyd has been particularly impacted by this, stepping into a leadership position he didn’t want. As the show becomes increasingly dark and dangerous, with more deaths occurring around him, Boyd’s well-being – both mental and physical – is becoming a major worry.
The newest trailer paints a grim picture. Perinneau states, “We’re losing. There’s no fighting these creatures, and all our efforts and sacrifices have been for nothing—none of us will survive.”
The strange happenings in the show are frightening, but they also seem carefully planned and deliberate. This has sparked a lot of theories among viewers, with many believing a higher power – whether religious, philosophical, or simply an all-controlling entity – is behind everything that’s happening.
Fans have often turned to spiritual ideas – whether from traditional Judeo-Christian beliefs about good and evil, or from ancient religions and folklore – to understand and solve the show’s intriguing puzzles. When a key spiritual character disappeared early on, some viewers thought the show might avoid religious explanations. However, the central mysteries continue to spark debate and interpretation.
It’s really intriguing to see a priest introduced to our group! Even though we didn’t get much of a look at him, it definitely feels like questions about faith and what’s happening to us are going to be a big focus this season. The trailer was full of religious imagery – crosses, cemeteries – and bringing in someone like this suggests the show is still interested in exploring what all of this means for our characters, deep down.
It’s unclear whether this new priest will be a helpful and wise presence, like a voice of reason, or just another problem for the town. However, his introduction is definitely building excitement for what happens next in this consistently excellent story.
