David Mitchell is a comedian, actor, and writer best known as one half of the comedy duo Mitchell and Webb. He and Robert Webb gained popularity starring in the critically acclaimed and award-winning sitcom, Peep Show.

Mitchell and Webb have collaborated on numerous sketch comedy shows, most recently creating and performing in “Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping.”

Mitchell is known for his work on shows like Ludwig, Upstart Crow, Would I Lie to You?, and his latest project, Last One Laughing UK.

Mitchell, who isn’t a comedian himself, said it was actually ‘easier’ to perform against comedians because he’s more used to comedy happening when an audience doesn’t react.

He explained to TopMob that a show like Peep Show isn’t meant to be laughed at, and that wasn’t a criticism of the writing itself.

Diane Morgan

Age: 50

Diane Morgan is a talented actress, comedian, and writer best known for playing the hilariously deadpan Philomena Cunk in shows like Charlie Brooker’s Weekly Wipe, Cunk on Britain, Cunk on Earth, and Cunk on Life.

She’s known for her roles in shows like Motherland, After Life, and Mandy. This year, she’s competing on Last One Laughing UK, and she originally believed it would be simple because of her experience with the character Cunk.

She explained to TopMob that she initially felt confident because of her extensive training. She realized it wasn’t just about remaining composed when speaking with experts – she needed to maintain a professional demeanor throughout the entire shoot, no matter what happened. She went into the situation expecting it to be straightforward, but quickly discovered it wasn’t as easy as she’d thought.

Romesh Ranganathan

Age: 47

Instagram: @romeshranga

Romesh Ranganathan is a comedian and actor who’s famous for his funny, often self-critical, style of humor. He’s hosted a number of TV shows, including “Asian Provocateur” and “Just Another Immigrant.”

Since 2021, he’s been the host of The Weakest Link, taking over from Anne Robinson. He also co-hosts Romesh Ranganathan’s Parents’ Evening with his mother.

While he’s known for his deadpan humour, did that help him in Last One Laughing UK? Not really…

I don’t naturally smile, and I actually have to make an effort to seem more enthusiastic when the situation calls for it,” he explained to TopMob. “I think appearing too friendly can make you a target. Mel Giedroyc laughs at everything, which makes things harder for her, but she’s a really strong competitor.

Amy Gledhill

Age: 38

Instagram: @thatamygledhill

Amy Gledhill is a comedian and actress who started her career performing with different sketch comedy groups. She was on the children’s show Big Fat Like from 2020 to 2021, and then went on to star in the comedy series Alma’s Not Normal.

Gledhill recently appeared in the Netflix series Run Away, based on a Harlan Coben novel, and will also be competing on the next season of Taskmaster.

Gledhill revealed to TopMob that she was initially afraid of doing stand-up comedy. However, that changed when she began dating a university boyfriend who performed at open mic nights, which inspired her to try it herself.

I used to go see him perform live, but he really wasn’t very good. Seeing that actually gave me the courage to try performing myself. I was living in Leeds at the time and secretly entered a competition in Manchester. I made it all the way to the final – that was about thirteen years ago.

Maisie Adam

Age: 32

Maisie Adam is a comedian known for being on popular TV shows like Mock the Week, The Big Fat Quiz of the Year, and A League of Their Own.

She’s also been on TV shows like Celebrity MasterMind and Tipping Point, and has a comedy special called Appraisal you can find on Sky and NOW. Plus, she co-hosts the women’s football podcast, Big Kick Energy, with Suzi Ruffell.

Maisie explained that she’s easily distracted by laughter. ‘I’m always cracking up,’ she said, talking about why she joined Last One Laughing. ‘If I’m performing and someone in the audience makes a funny noise, it throws me off for ages. So, the chance to do the show live was just too good to resist.’

Mel Giedroyc

Age: 57

Instagram: @melgiedroyc

Mel Giedroyc is a comedian and television host who’s famous for her partnership with Sue Perkins. Together, they’ve hosted popular shows including Light Lunch, The Great British Bake Off, and Mel & Sue, and most recently, Win Win on ITV.

Graham Norton has been the face of the UK’s Eurovision coverage and a panelist on The Masked Singer, and now he’s taking on a new comedic challenge with Last One Laughing.

Giedroyc explained her strategy on the show involved making exaggerated facial expressions, something she called a ‘gurn.’ She was inspired by the comedian Les Dawson, known for his incredible gurning skills – essentially pushing the lower jaw up over the upper one. She described using every muscle in her face and neck to achieve the look, jokingly claiming it was a ‘very cheap jowl lift.’ Unlike Jimmy Carr, she won’t be needing any Botox!

Alan Carr

Age: 49

Instagram: @chattyman

Alan Carr is best known from his Chatty Man talk show, which aired from 2009 until 2017.

The comedian has hosted several TV shows throughout his career, such as Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow. He currently hosts Alan Carr’s Picture Slam and Amanda and Alan’s Italian Job.

He recently appeared on and won The Celebrity Traitors, a victory that shocked both him and viewers across the country!

If you saw him on the BBC show, you’ll remember he couldn’t stop laughing. So, it was impossible for him to keep a straight face on a show where laughing is absolutely forbidden.

He shared with TopMob that he used to spend a lot of time near the recycling bin. He started recycling as a way to hide his face, and thinking about his dogs – and how upsetting it would be if they were put down – helped him cope with tough times. He expressed gratitude to Bev and Joyce, his dogs, saying they helped him through difficult moments and that he’ll always be thankful for them.

Gbemisola Ikumelo

Age: 39

Instagram: @gbemisola_ikumelo

Gbemisola Ikumelo is an actress and comedian best known for her breakout role in the BBC Three sketch show, Famalam. She received a Royal Television Society award for her comedic performance in the show.

I’ve been so impressed watching her career! Since then, she’s landed roles in the show Black Ops, the A League of Their Own series on Prime Video, and even performed on stage in Clyde’s at the Donmar Warehouse. It’s amazing to see everything she’s achieving.

Gbemisola shared with TopMob that filming this series made her laugh harder than she ever has before. She described the sound as surprisingly intense, possibly because she was trying to hold it back. She joked that she’s discovered a whole range of laughs – including angry, flirty, and genuinely amused – and now a truly wild, ‘demonic’ laugh to add to the collection.

Sam Campbell

Age: 34

Instagram: @mcdonaldscomedy

Sam Campbell is an Australian comedian who first became popular performing stand-up and creating funny videos online. He quickly built a strong following in Australia.

He moved to the UK and in 2022, won the prestigious top prize at the Edinburgh Comedy Awards for his performance at the Fringe festival. The following year, in 2023, he won the TV show Taskmaster and later competed in a special all-stars edition.

When asked about performing comedy for an audience unable to laugh, Sam explained to TopMob that it wasn’t as difficult as one might think. He admitted he doesn’t have much faith in comedians, describing them as self-centered and egotistical. He emphasized his own desire to avoid appearing boastful or self-important, stating he strives to be unselfish.

Bob Mortimer

Age: 66

Instagram: @realbobmortimer

Okay, let me tell you about Bob Mortimer. He’s a hilarious comedian, but most people probably know him best as one half of the iconic comedy duo Reeves and Mortimer. They’re a classic pairing, and that’s really where he first made a name for himself – working alongside Vic Reeves. Honestly, if you’re not familiar with their stuff, you’re missing out!

Lately, I’ve been really enjoying watching him in “Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing” with Paul Whitehouse. It’s a fantastic show!

Bob is a familiar face on game shows, having been on popular programs like 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Taskmaster, and Would I Lie to You? He’s appeared on Would I Lie to You? more times than any other guest.

He’s also the very first winner of Last One Laughing UK, which was a tough competition to return to.

He admitted to TopMob that he initially thought his previous experience might give him an edge, but that feeling quickly changed once he started. He realized the situation was completely different than before. He quickly identified Alan Carr, Romesh, and David as his initial competitors and immediately felt he didn’t stand a chance – it was going to be a real challenge.

The second season of Last One Laughing UK starts on Prime Video on Thursday, March 19th. You can watch season 1 anytime now.
