New Thor Redesign Turns Him Into An Agent Of SHIELD

Marvel has shared a fresh take on Thor’s appearance, imagining what a more everyday outfit for the God of Thunder would look like in the upcoming game, Marvel Rivals. Unlike many other Avengers, Thor rarely changes his costume. His classic Asgardian armor isn’t just clothing—it’s a core part of his identity, not something he’d change for style or practicality.

As a longtime comic book fan, I’ve seen Thor’s look change a lot over the years. Seriously, the character has had countless redesigns! From the super flashy gold and blue armor of the late ’80s to the darker, more streamlined look he sported when he was working with Galactus back in 2020, there’s a wealth of visual inspiration to draw from. And it’s really cool to see that influence showing up in things like Thor: Love and Thunder, the Marvel’s Avengers game, and even Fortnite.

Marvel continues to refresh Thor’s appearance with new designs, both within established storylines and in alternate interpretations.

Thor’s New Stormbreakers Look Is His Perfect Alternate Skin For Marvel Rivals

Mortal Thor #9 Agents OF SHIELD Variant Cover By Netho Diaz

I’m absolutely loving Netho Diaz’s variant cover for Mortal Thor #9! It shows Thor looking incredibly sharp in a full suit and coat, and the details are amazing. His vest has those classic Thor medallions, but one has the SHIELD logo and the other features Mjolnir! He’s got a cool eyepatch and his hair is pulled back in a ponytail. Plus, he’s holding a brand new Mjolnir that’s covered in intricate designs. It really reminds me of the Ultimate Thor, with that sleek, almost human look to his armor – it’s a fantastic take on the character!

The variant cover for Mortal Thor #9 features a Thor design strikingly similar to Thunderstrike, the hero Eric Masterson. In the comics, Masterson briefly wielded Thor’s power and eventually became an Asgardian hero with his own identity. While Thunderstrike probably won’t be a playable character in Marvel Rivals, a skin for Thor based on his look would be a welcome addition to the game.

Marvel Rivals’ Thor Desperately Needs More Comic Skins

Thor Doesn’t Have Enough Well-Known Costumes In Marvel Rivals

Though Marvel Rivals has successfully portrayed Thor as a strong frontline fighter, his available costumes feel limited considering his long history. As of March 2026, players can choose from a few options, like the Herald of Thunder outfit based on the Donny Cates comics and a costume inspired by his Jotun heritage. However, Thor doesn’t have as many costume choices as other heroes like Iron Man and Spider-Man.

While the game features a costume tie-in with the Love and Thunder movie, many of Thor’s most iconic comic book looks are still missing. There’s a huge opportunity to add a wide range of skins, from the original designs by Jack Kirby to more recent and popular versions like the battle-worn Unworthy Thor or the Ultimate Thor. Even suits from the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, along with the fan-favorite Thor from the Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes animated series, could be included.

Marvel Rivals could smartly expand its character options with alternate character skins. For example, characters like Thunderstrike, Odin, and Magni – who are all connected to Thor and share his look and abilities – could be added this way without making the game’s roster too large. Beta Ray Bill is a bit different; while he could be a skin for Thor, his distinct appearance and powerful weapon, Stormbreaker, might be enough to justify him being a completely separate character. In the meantime, using designs that are faithful to the comics will help keep Thor looking as impressive as he plays.
