It’s been thirteen years since we last saw a live-action Lord of the Rings film, and honestly, I’m feeling a little bit of both excitement and apprehension. On the surface, it feels like a bit of a nostalgia play – the story and some returning faces seem designed to really lean into what made the original trilogy so special. I get that, but I also worry about relying too much on the past. Okay, big news for fantasy fans! Deadline is reporting that Kate Winslet is joining the cast of The Hunt for Gollum as the female lead. They’re keeping details about her character pretty secret – even what kind of creature she’ll be playing is under wraps. This is the second time we’ll see Winslet dive into a huge franchise this decade, following her work as Ronal in James Cameron’s Avatar sequels.
