The Best Disney Sequel Since Frozen 2 Just Made Its Streaming Debut (& It’s an Instant Hit)

After a hugely successful run in theaters, Disney’s latest sequel – considered by many to be the best since Frozen 2 – is now available to stream. Frozen 2 was already a major hit for the studio, continuing the popular story of Anna and Elsa and performing well at the box office. However, a new Disney film released in 2025 has quickly surpassed it, breaking records and becoming a streaming favorite.

After a decade in development, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2016 hit Zootopia – Zootopia 2 – is now available on Disney+. Critics at Next Best Picture are calling it “a marvel of modern animated storytelling.” The film follows Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as they team up once again, this time going undercover to solve a dangerous conspiracy and explore new areas of the animal city. Zootopia 2 is already a streaming success, currently ranking as the No. 3 most-watched movie on Disney+ worldwide, with the original Zootopia at No. 7 and Inside Out 2 at No. 2.

Zootopia 2 Is Disney’s Biggest Animated Film Ever

The long-awaited Zootopia sequel was well worth the wait. It’s not only one of Disney’s strongest sequels, but also their best film since Encanto, and a standout addition to their recent work. Instead of relying on familiar memories, Zootopia 2 successfully builds upon the original by introducing new, richly detailed areas and exploring complex social issues, such as integrating reptiles into society. We also see Nick and Judy’s relationship grow and deepen. The movie offers higher stakes, more action, surprisingly relevant themes, and retains all the heart and humor of the first film, making it a fantastic follow-up.

Zootopia 2 was a huge success with both critics and audiences. It received top ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 91% score from critics and a remarkable 95% audience approval – even better than Frozen 2 and almost matching the original Zootopia. However, the film truly shined at the box office. Grossing a record-breaking $1.86 billion worldwide, Zootopia 2 is now Disney’s most successful animated film of all time. This impressive number also places it as the second-highest-grossing animated movie globally, behind only Ne Zha 2, and among the top nine highest-grossing films ever made.

What’s New on Disney+?

Disney+ subscribers got a pleasant surprise this month with the early release of Zootopia on March 11th. It joins other new additions like Locker Diaries: ZOMBIES: Shorts and Ghost Elephants. And there’s more to come! Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again and The Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special are both scheduled to premiere on March 24th.
