Cartoon Network to Bring Back Classic Franchise That’s Found New Life

Cartoon Network is getting a lot of attention recently as many of its older, popular shows are now available on Tubi, a free streaming service. Series like Ed Edd ‘N Eddy, Kids Next Door, and The Powerpuff Girls—which haven’t been on the Cartoon Network channel for years—are back for fans to enjoy. While Cartoon Network also streams on other platforms, the channel itself continues to show both new and classic content. Next month, they’re bringing back another big hit, and they’re celebrating with a special return of a beloved series on April 1st.

Starting in 2022, Cartoon Network has been celebrating April Fool’s Day with a special event called “Acme Fools,” showcasing classic Looney Tunes characters like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. From 2023 to 2025, this included nine-hour marathons of popular series such as The Looney Tunes Show, New Looney Tunes, Tiny Toons Looniversity, and Bugs Bunny Builders. Next month, Acme Fools is returning with many of these same shows, plus the addition of Duck Dodgers, an action-comedy series featuring Daffy and Porky as space explorers. Given the continued popularity of Looney Tunes, it’s a smart move for Cartoon Network to build on that success.

Looney Tunes’ Revival

Many animation fans thought the Looney Tunes franchise was over when Warner Bros. cancelled the movie Coyote Vs. Acme. Fortunately, Ketchup Entertainment stepped in to give the film a theatrical release this summer on August 28th. While Coyote Vs. Acme combines classic 2-D animation with live-action, it’s just one of several upcoming projects bringing the beloved Warner Bros. characters back to life.

Jorge R. Gutiérrez, the creator of The Book of Life and El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera, is developing a Speedy Gonzalez movie for Warner Bros. The project was announced last month, and fans are hoping it moves forward despite the potential merger between Warner Bros. and Paramount – a process that, if approved, will take a while to complete. Interestingly, these classic animated characters are finding renewed popularity thanks to free streaming platforms.

Tubi had a lot of success last year after adding many Looney Tunes cartoons, so it’s likely they’ll add more classic Cartoon Network shows soon. For fans of Looney Tunes, now is a great time, as Tubi is planning to expand its collection.
