David Furnish Says Elton John Is “Battling on” After Health Issues

You can tell everybody Elton John is all right.

I’m just so relieved to hear it! Sir Elton’s been so open about everything he’s been going through health-wise, and honestly, it’s been worrying me sick. But David Furnish – thank goodness for David! – just said Elton is doing great. Seriously, that’s all I needed to hear. It’s such a weight off my shoulders knowing my idol is doing well. I’m sending all my love and best wishes to both of them!

I’ve been hearing updates, and thankfully, he’s really staying strong and focused on the future. From what I understand, he’s keeping a full schedule and making positive progress, which is wonderful to see. It’s all about keeping busy and moving forward, isn’t it?

Honestly, it’s just SO heartwarming to see him finally getting to be a dad! After years on tour, he wrapped things up in 2023, and now he’s spending all this quality time with Zachary, who’s 15, and Elijah, my sweet 13-year-old. It just melts my heart to see them all together, it’s like he’s a completely different person, and in the best way possible!

David explained that his husband is enjoying family time at home with their sons, which is why he stopped touring. They both prioritize parenting and being together as a family, and that’s what matters most to them. David will co-host the Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party on March 15 with his husband, Neil Patrick Harris, and David Burtka.

In 2021, Elton John fell and had to delay his concerts while he received extensive physical therapy and medical care. He’s since lightheartedly mentioned being in rough shape, explaining he’s had several operations – including the removal of his tonsils, appendix, and prostate – and has had both knees and his right hip replaced.

The two-time Oscar winner revealed he’s been dealing with worsening vision problems after getting a virus in 2024.

“The last fifteen months have been incredibly difficult,” he shared with Variety in November. “I lost vision in my right eye, and my left eye isn’t strong, so I haven’t been able to see, watch, or read anything.”

Despite the health struggles, Elton has been able to focus on the positives.

Despite everything, I’m still performing and singing. You have to stay positive and get through it. It’s tough sometimes, but I’m very lucky – I have a wonderful family, two amazing children, and David.

You know, looking back on my life, it’s been truly amazing, and that gives me so much hope. I’m staying positive and trusting that science will eventually find a solution for this health challenge I’m facing. Once they do, I’m confident I’ll be back to feeling great.
