It’s amazing when dream casting actually happens in movies and TV. Fans are incredibly passionate about their favorite franchises – whether it’s Star Wars, Marvel, Godzilla, or anything else. They have strong ideas about who should play certain characters and aren’t afraid to share them. While not every fan suggestion works out, some unexpected choices can be brilliant. Think about Michael Keaton as Batman or Heath Ledger as the Joker – those castings turned out incredibly well! But every so often, fans get exactly what they wished for, and it proves they were right all along.
Here are some examples of actors and actresses that fans passionately campaigned for to play specific characters in established franchises. Thankfully, studios and creators took notice, and the final results lived up to expectations.
10) Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano

Although Star Wars: The Clone Wars earned less at the box office than any other film in the franchise, it’s still a significant movie. It launched the popular Clone Wars TV series and introduced Ahsoka Tano, a character who quickly became a fan favorite.
The character first appeared in both the movie and TV series The Clone Wars, as well as Star Wars Rebels (with a voice appearance in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker). She finally made her live-action debut in The Mandalorian, and fans were thrilled that Rosario Dawson, known from Sin City, was cast in the role. Dawson has since continued playing the character in The Book of Boba Fett and will return for a second season of her own show. Just like Ashley Eckstein before her, Dawson’s portrayal has been consistently excellent.
9) Oscar Isaac as Gomez Addams

Raul Julia, a remarkably talented and charming actor, always captivated audiences. He had a knack for elevating even mediocre films – for example, he significantly improved the watchability of Street Fighter with his performance.
Julia was primarily known for roles in mature films. However, The Addams Family and Addams Family Values made her beloved by a huge number of young fans, and she’s still recognized for those roles today. More recently, as Oscar Isaac’s career took off, many people started suggesting he could play Gomez Addams just as well as Julia did – and they were right. Like Julia, Isaac has now portrayed the character – through voice acting – in two different projects.
8) John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic

For years, Marvel fans have envisioned John Krasinski as Reed Richards, also known as Mr. Fantastic, thanks to his calm and caring on-screen presence, as well as his physical build. Now, with the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has made that fan casting a reality.
The biggest crowd-pleasing moment in a movie already packed with them was the reveal of John Krasinski as Mr. Fantastic from another universe. While his appearance was brief – he quickly encounters Wanda Maximoff – it was still exciting to see what Krasinski would bring to the role in a Fantastic Four movie.
7) Danny Trejo as Oscar Diaz

Stephanie Beatriz brilliantly portrayed Detective Rosa Diaz from the very first episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Rosa is known for being tough, serious, and a bit reserved, but she always knows when a friend needs support and is there for them.
Danny Trejo, known for playing tough characters, also has a knack for bringing out the emotional side of his roles. Because of this, and the fact that he shares a Latin American background with actress Beatriz, many viewers hoped he’d appear on the show. In Season 5, he finally did, playing a significant role in the episode “Game Night.” The episode centers around Rosa coming out to her parents as bisexual. While Trejo’s character, Oscar, initially struggles with the news, he ultimately emphasizes that his love for his daughter is unconditional.
6) Jessica Chastain as Beverly Marsh / Bill Hader as Richie Tozier

While the second part of It isn’t quite as strong as the first, that’s true whether you’re watching the movie or reading the book. However, It Chapter Two is definitely made better by having two perfect casting choices come to life.
Jessica Chastain powerfully portrays Beverly Marsh as an adult, showing all the ways her character hides the pain of past experiences. Bill Hader, known from Saturday Night Live, plays the grown-up Richie Tozier with a lot of humor, but also convincingly shows how Richie uses jokes to cover up his own unease and fear.
5) Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool

People immediately wanted Ryan Reynolds to play Deadpool as his career took off, especially because he was known for his comedic talent. Reynolds himself was one of those fans of the idea.
The actor has said that the fans’ constant requests for him to be cast were crucial in getting the movie made. It’s amazing considering the franchise has now earned over a billion dollars, but the first film in 2016 wasn’t initially seen as a sure thing. It was the positive reaction to early test footage that really got the project moving forward.
4) Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia

Henry Cavill, who plays Superman in the DC movies, is a well-known gamer. Gamers often deeply immerse themselves in characters and stories, similar to a form of casual acting. Because of this, they often want the actors playing characters in video game adaptations to actually understand and appreciate the game and its world. A good example of this is the casting of Brie Larson in the upcoming The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
As The Witcher gained popularity on Netflix, Henry Cavill shared his enthusiasm for both the video games and the original books. He actively pursued the role, and fans were thrilled when he landed it. Even after he left the show, many supported him, believing he departed because the series was straying further from the source material he loved.
3) Zachary Quinto as Spock

Occasionally, an actor embodies a character so perfectly that it’s difficult to picture anyone else in the part. Then, years later, after that actor has moved on, someone new comes along who bears a striking resemblance to the original, incredibly talented performer.
A good example is Brandon Routh as Superman, but Zachary Quinto as Spock in the newer Star Trek films is a much stronger case. Even before he landed the role, as soon as people noticed him in shows like 24 and Heroes, fans immediately said he was perfect for Spock – and he proved them right, delivering a fantastic performance.
2) Patrick Stewart as Professor X

For roughly a decade, fans campaigned for Patrick Stewart to play Professor X before he finally landed the role in the 2000 film directed by Bryan Singer. While watching the animated series from the early 1990s, many viewers imagined Captain Picard filling the part.
Stewart is instantly recognizable for his bald head, but he’s always projected a powerful and dignified presence. This isn’t an intimidating power, though – he combines authority with a genuine warmth. He perfectly embodied the character Professor X, and continues to bring that same compelling quality to the role now.
1) Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel

Disney’s live-action remakes had an up-and-down year. While Snow White wasn’t well-received, Lilo & Stitch proved to be a big success.
Disney is continuing the trend of reimagining classic films, and they’ve officially cast Kathryn Hahn as the villain, Mother Gothel, in the upcoming Tangled remake. Hahn is already familiar with Disney, having starred in WandaVision and its popular song, Agatha All Along. Her talent and vocal abilities, showcased in Agatha, make her a perfect fit for the role.
As a total movie buff, I’m always dreaming about perfect casting choices! I’m curious, what actors would you love to see take on iconic roles? Let’s chat about it – head over to the ComicBook Forum and share your dream castings with everyone!
