Fastidiously Multiformat Square Enix Skips PS5 with Yet Another Game

As a big Final Fantasy fan, I’ve noticed Square Enix really shifting gears after Final Fantasy 16 didn’t sell quite as well as they’d hoped as a PlayStation 5 exclusive. Now, they’re really pushing to release games on multiple platforms – it seems like they’ve learned a lesson about keeping things open!

Funny, because as far as we can see, it still covets exclusivity where it suits.

The release of Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD, a remastered Nintendo DS game, felt strange considering Nintendo had previously presented it as a launch title only for their new Switch 2 console. We initially dismissed it as an unusual situation tied to the console’s debut.

The game is now available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, but it doesn’t appear to be coming to PlayStation 5 anytime soon.

This is a sequel to Panoramasight: The Mermaid’s Curse, a popular game released earlier this year for Nintendo Switch, PC, and mobile devices.

There’s likely a partnership with Microsoft involved, as the game features Play Anywhere – a program usually reserved for games published or supported by Microsoft.

We expect a version of this game for the PlayStation 5 will be released at some point. It will likely be much more popular on the PS5 than it is on Xbox.

But right now, PlayStation fans find themselves snubbed yet again.

To be honest, we’re tired of Square Enix talking about supporting multiple platforms. We’d prefer they just show us, rather than tell us.
