Martin Clunes transforms into Huw Edwards in new extended first-look trailer for 5 drama

After a brief preview earlier this month, the complete trailer for the 5 drama series, ‘Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards,’ has been released.

The new trailer offers the most detailed glimpse yet of Martin Clunes (known for Doc Martin) as Huw Edwards, the BBC News presenter at the center of the scandal, and features Osian Morgan (from Under Salt Marsh) playing a significant supporting character named Ryan.

In the trailer, Morgan’s character, who is 17 years old, mentions someone providing them with financial support, saying, “there’s a man who gives us money.” Meanwhile, Edwards is informed that “Britain has spoken – you are the voice of the nation.”

Next, a video call shows the teenager asking the newsreader what he wants to discuss. Edwards, played by Clunes, responds, “Nothing, show me something instead,” and Ryan proceeds to remove his shirt.

You can watch the full-length trailer above.

Originally planned as a two-part series, “Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards” will now be broadcast as a single, two-hour program later this month.

I’m really disturbed by this new drama. It stars Martin Clunes as a newsreader, and it shows how his life completely falls apart when it’s revealed he’s committed terrible crimes against children. The story follows how everything spirals, ultimately leading to him announcing he’s leaving his public life after being convicted. It’s a difficult subject, but it seems like a really important story to tell.

I’m really excited to see Ben Bishop, who I loved in Endeavour, and Clare Calbraith, who’s fantastic in Grace, join Martin Clunes and Julian Morgan in this new drama! They’re playing journalists from The Sun – Ben O’Driscoll and Victoria Newton, if you’re wondering who they are.

Sir Trevor McDonald was a well-known news presenter, famously anchoring BBC’s News at Ten for many years. In 2024, he admitted to possessing indecent images of children and received a six-month suspended prison sentence.

Power: The Downfall of Huw Edwards will air on Tuesday 24 March at 9pm on 5.
