BBC tipped to fill Glastonbury void this year with charity tribute concert to David Bowie 10 years after death

Plans are underway for a televised concert to honor David Bowie, celebrating the 10-year anniversary of his passing.

The concert’s producers are booking performers, and The Mirror reports they’re aiming to feature some of the most talented young artists in the world.

According to a source, the event is intended as both a tribute to David Bowie and a way to showcase how his music continues to inspire current artists.

The BBC is expected to broadcast this concert as a substitute for the usual Glastonbury festival, which isn’t happening this year. However, when asked for confirmation, the BBC wouldn’t provide a statement.

TopMob understands plans for the BBC’s music over the summer will be confirmed in due course.

The Mirror reports that all money earned from the concert will be donated to music-related charities, such as Teenage Cancer Trust and Nordoff and Robbins, which provides music therapy.

David Bowie passed away in 2016 after fighting cancer for a year and a half. Throughout his incredible career, he released 25 albums and last performed live at a charity concert in New York City in 2006. While a smaller event honoring his life and music was held at Carnegie Hall in 2026, this new concert aims to be a much larger tribute. Read more:

Glastonbury Festival won’t be on BBC this year because the event is taking a break to allow the festival grounds to recover and the land to regrow.

As a huge Glastonbury fan, it’s amazing to hear how far ahead Emily Eavis and her team are planning! She actually told Cosmopolitan that she’s already booked the first headliner for the 2028 festival – that’s years in advance! It really shows how much work goes into making that event happen and how in-demand it is.
