Over the years, many fantastic Star Wars video games have been released, but even more projects were ultimately canceled. It’s common for games to get scrapped, and because Star Wars is such a huge franchise, there’s a long list of them. Some of these canceled games likely would have been amazing, but we’ll never get the chance to play them. We’ve compiled a list of five canceled Star Wars games that probably would have been released if Disney hadn’t bought the franchise – and they’re presented in no particular order.
1) Project Ragtag

I was so excited when I first heard about Project Ragtag – it was a Star Wars game that started development around 2013! It went through a bunch of phases, but sadly it got canceled in 2017, which was a real disappointment. It was being made by Amy Hennig, who created the Uncharted series, and it sounded incredible – a huge heist game set right after the Battle of Yavin. The problem was, Star Wars Battlefront did really well, and a lot of the developers working on Ragtag were moved over to help with Battlefront II. That pretty much sealed its fate. They even tried to revive it later as a big, open-world game, but unfortunately, that version got canceled too. It’s a shame – it sounded like something really special.
2) Star Wars: Maul Battle of the Sith Lords

Originally known as “Damage” and then “Maul,” Battle of the Sith Lords was a Star Wars game in development at Red Fly Studio. The game would have followed Darth Maul’s story across multiple locations and included unique gameplay features, like a droid mechanic, that later appeared in other Star Wars titles. It was designed for mature audiences and explored themes rarely seen in Star Wars games, including mature content. However, the project was cancelled when George Lucas sold LucasArts to Disney, as Disney had different plans for the character and its storyline.
3) Star Wars: The Force Unleashed III

The original Force Unleashed games were huge hits, so plans for a third game, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed III, were started. This sequel would have continued Starkiller’s story, teaming him up with Darth Vader to face a new danger: the Emperor, who wanted to find a new apprentice. It would have given Starkiller a proper conclusion, something fans would have loved. However, Disney’s acquisition of LucasArts meant the game never moved past the planning stages.
4) Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 3

Ask most Star Wars video game fans their favorite title, and they’ll probably say one of the Knights of the Old Republic games. They’re widely considered excellent, and a third game was once planned to continue the story after Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. While some early concept art was created and development began, the project stalled and was eventually canceled. Although Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic shares some similarities and is still in development, it’s not the direct sequel fans had hoped for.
5) Star Wars: 1313

The cancellation of Star Wars: 1313 was a major disappointment for fans, and many reacted with dismay. The game, which would have focused on Boba Fett, was set in the gritty underworld of Coruscant’s Level 1313. Early artwork and previews generated a lot of excitement. Unfortunately, Disney’s acquisition of the Star Wars franchise led to the project being shelved, and it’s unlikely to ever be released.
