A new Korean drama is quickly becoming a hit on Netflix, jumping into the Top 5 and currently sitting at number four with 2.6 million views. The show, which premiered a week ago and has a 95% audience approval rating, features 10 episodes and stars a member of the famous K-pop group BLACKPINK.
Boyfriend on Demand is a lighthearted and fun series, and while it sounds a bit silly, it’s surprisingly enjoyable. It’s a sweet and charming story about Seo Mi-rae (played by Jisoo), a webtoon producer who’s given up on romance. She’s so focused on her career that she barely has time for herself, let alone a relationship. That changes when she discovers “Boyfriend on Demand,” a virtual dating service that feels incredibly real. As Mi-rae experiences a series of ideal dates, she starts to remember what it’s like to enjoy life outside of work, and begins to question whether real life can ever compare to her perfect fantasies.
It’s a Fun, Funny Series That’s Sure to be Relatable
The series Boyfriend on Demand received very different reactions from viewers and critics. Audiences overwhelmingly enjoyed it, giving it a 95% approval rating, while critics were less impressed, awarding it a score of 65% – a 30-point difference. Critic Ruchika Bhat gave the show 2.5 out of 5 stars, noting that despite an interesting concept and some depth, it didn’t quite live up to its potential.
I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about this series, and honestly, it sounds like exactly the kind of escape we all need sometimes. It’s not just fluff, though – people are really connecting with it. What’s cool is how it takes this wild idea – a virtual boyfriend service – and grounds it in really relatable stories. One fan put it perfectly: the chemistry between JISOO and Seo In-guk is amazing, making you genuinely invested in their dynamic. It’s a total ‘must-watch’! And even though the premise is lighthearted, it actually tackles things a lot of us deal with – the struggle to balance work and life, the stress of modern dating, and that feeling of just being…disappointed. It’s fun, yes, but it’s also surprisingly heartfelt.
