Good news for horror fans! The Occultist, a psychological horror adventure game from DALOAR (previously known as Pentakill Studios) and Daedalic Entertainment, will be released on April 8, 2026. You’ll be able to play it on PC through Steam, as well as on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S – it’s coming very soon!
On March 5, 2026, during Developer Diary Episode 3, the game was officially announced and pre-orders opened for consoles. This follows a brief delay from the initial 2025 release plan, allowing the development team additional time to refine what’s shaping up to be a very immersive game.
Step Into the Fog: The Story of Alan Rebels
I’m playing as Alan Rebels, they call me ‘The Occultist,’ and things have gotten pretty weird. My dad disappeared, and it’s led me to this abandoned island called Godstone, off the British coast. It’s where he was born, but it’s been totally cut off since 1950. Turns out, it used to be home to a seriously messed up cult – they were known for some really dark rituals and experiments. Now, the whole place is covered in fog and feels totally haunted, crawling with creepy spirits and old curses. It’s definitely not a relaxing vacation spot!
Players take on the role of Alan, equipped with a strange pendulum from previous investigations, as they navigate unsettling streets and buildings. They’ll encounter angry spirits, reveal hidden truths, and grapple with a story that explores themes of fragility, ancient knowledge, and the sacrifices made to help lost souls. Throughout the journey, Alan’s own convictions will be challenged.

Gameplay That Builds Dread Through Atmosphere
The Occultist is pure slow-burn psycho-horror rather than jump-scare overload. Key features include:
- The Mystic Pendulum — Five unique mechanics let Alan interact with and alter the environment in occult-inspired ways.
- Stealth & Survival — No direct combat; hide, sneak, and evade threats while solving puzzles that range from simple to those requiring genuine occult insight.
- Immersive Exploration — Tense first-person navigation through fog-shrouded ruins, memorable adversaries, and haunting encounters.
- Stunning Presentation — Built in Unreal Engine 5 with next-gen graphics, plus an original soundtrack by renowned composer Pepe Herrero.
The newest development update highlights the game’s smart use of sound. By using quiet moments and faint audio hints, the developers are building suspense and letting players create their own sense of fear, making even small sounds like creaks and whispers feel deeply unsettling.
Editions, Pre-Orders & Demo
- Standard Edition — Expected at $29.99.
- Digital Deluxe Edition — $39.99, includes the full game, a digital art book with over 200 pages, and the complete soundtrack.
You can now pre-order the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox! A free demo is also available on Steam in 14 different languages – including English, Spanish, French, and Japanese – so you can try it out now.
To run this game, you’ll need Windows 11, an Intel i5-11600K or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X processor, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT graphics card. It also requires 40 GB of free storage space. For the best graphics and performance, more powerful hardware is recommended.
The Final Countdown Has Begun
Get ready for The Occultist, a spooky indie horror game launching on April 8th! It’s looking to be one of the most chilling experiences of 2026. If you enjoy games with a creepy atmosphere, mysterious paranormal stories, and a lingering sense of dread, you won’t want to miss this one.
You can try out a demo now on Steam, and pre-orders are available for consoles. Plus, a new developer diary is on YouTube with more details about the scary things lurking on the island. A mysterious and unsettling world is calling – will you accept?
