Prince William Shares Unseen Photo of Princess Diana in Sweet Tribute

Prince William is honoring his mom in a royally sweet way.

Prince William recently shared a previously unpublished photo of his mother, Princess Diana, as a touching tribute for Mother’s Day in the UK. Princess Diana tragically died in a car accident in 1997 when William was just 15 years old.

He shared a nostalgic photo on Instagram on March 15th, writing, “Thinking of my mother, today and always.” He also sent wishes to everyone remembering a loved one, and wished everyone a Happy Mother’s Day. – W.

The photo shows Diana crouching in a flower-filled field, holding baby William’s hand. She’s wearing jeans and a pink sweater and smiling at the camera, while William looks at the flowers around them.

Prince William recently received praise for honoring his mother’s work, shortly after discussing the challenges of raising his three children – Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7 – with Kate Middleton.

During a February 18th panel discussion for BBC Radio 1’s Life Hacks: Mental Health Special, Prince William jokingly mentioned that his three children often share their feelings – “sometimes too much.” He added that he appreciates hearing all the details, saying it’s “amazing.”

This open communication helps William understand how his children are feeling, but it also makes him want to fix things for them—a tendency he’s actively working to overcome.

William explained that he struggles with the feeling that everything needs to be fixed for others. He has to constantly remind himself that it’s okay to simply listen and accept people’s feelings and opinions, rather than trying to solve all their problems.

He explained that you’ll experience a wide range of feelings – some unpleasant, some wonderful, and many in between.

William recently shared how he and Kate are ensuring their children know and appreciate the legacy of Princess Diana.

In a 2017 BBC documentary commemorating the 20th anniversary of his mother’s death, Prince William explained that his family frequently talks about Princess Diana and has displayed more photos of her around their home. He noted it’s challenging, though, because his wife, Catherine, never had the chance to meet her and can’t share personal memories.

I often talk about Princess Diana when I put George or Charlotte to bed, reminding them that they had two grandmothers and that she was a part of their lives. It’s important they remember who she was and that she existed.

In a recent video, Kate reflected on winter, describing how its quiet stillness encourages patience and self-reflection. She noted that the slower pace of life during the colder months—like a stream moving more gently—allows us to connect with ourselves and appreciate the subtle energy of the natural world around us.

I’ve been thinking about how thankful I am. It’s like a natural flow inside us washes away our fears, cleanses our hearts, and helps us find peace with our sadness. Through this process, we truly experience what it means to be alive and connected to nature – a gentle guide that helps us heal and remember.
