Yellowstone’s Luke Grimes Says Locals Aren’t Happy He Moved to Montana

Luke Grimes is having a tough time wrangling the hearts of his new neighbors.

Following his announcement that he and his wife, Bianca Rodrigues Grimes, are moving from Los Angeles to Montana with their 17-month-old son, Rigel, the actor shared that the locals haven’t been entirely welcoming.

Luke, 42, mentioned on the March 13th episode of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast that Montanans aren’t thrilled with the impact of the show Yellowstone on the state’s population. He explained that he noticed visitors from California in his valley. He and some friends were hiking with these visitors, and they recognized California license plates on their car.

After finishing a hike, someone had scrawled ‘go back’ in the dust on a car, which shows how strongly some people react to this area. Because of that, I keep the exact location to myself – people get upset if they find out where I’ve been.

Luke mentioned he lived in Los Angeles for 16 years before moving, but he also encouraged Montanans to consider that their ancestors might have been newcomers to the state as well.

You know, hearing David Strathairn talk about it really hit me. He pointed out that while I just stayed in that place, someone else actually lived there, did interesting things. It made me realize I hadn’t been nearly as proactive or exciting as I thought. It’s a little humbling, honestly, to hear that someone else had a fuller experience where I just… existed.

That said, he still worries for his safety around town.

He explained he avoids bars now because of one particular person who seems determined to pick a fight with him. He believes this person is looking for an excuse to sue him, making any encounter a bad situation for him.

Even with its challenges, Luke wouldn’t want to live anywhere else.

He explained that he no longer worries about missing out on anything. He finds real enjoyment in simple things like thinking, sleeping, reading, and watching movies, and says it’s incredibly fulfilling.

The singer of “No Horse To Ride” recently explained more about why his family decided to move.

I’ve always been dedicated to the show, spending around three or four months each year working on location. But honestly, after wrapping up filming and returning to my everyday life, it started to feel strange. It wasn’t like I was returning home, it felt like I was leaving it behind. The location really became my home away from home, and that feeling stuck with me.

It wasn’t a sudden decision, but a gradual shift that took a few years,” he explained. “Eventually, my wife and I really fell in love with the area and decided to make it our home.

She raved about the English countryside, telling the BBC it was “absolutely beautiful” and unlike anything she was used to. She particularly loved the charming villages, towns, and architecture, noting it represented a more relaxed and simple way of life.

“It’s just a nicer place,” Ellen explained. “The animals are well cared for, and everyone is so friendly. We really love living here. We moved in November, which wasn’t the best timing, but I finally got to see snow! Portia brought her horses with her, I have chickens, and we even had sheep for a couple of weeks.”

Tyra Banks, the host of America’s Next Top Model, decided to move to Australia partly to focus on her ice cream company, SMiZE and Dream. She explained on Today with Jenna & Friends that her business had been primarily supplying ice cream to places like airplanes and cruise ships, and she’d been traveling to Australia frequently because that’s where a large production facility was located. She grew to love the country with each visit.

She also recognized Australia as a promising market for her product, noting that the top three countries for ice cream consumption are the US, New Zealand, and Australia.

Ultimately, the supermodel relocated to Australia with her son, York (whose father is her ex, Erik Asla), and her boyfriend, Louis Bélanger-Martin, sharing that Australia has been a wonderful experience for her and her family.

Eva Longoria, known for her role on Desperate Housewives, has moved from Los Angeles and now splits her time between Mexico and Spain with her husband, José Bastón, and their son, Santiago. She explained to Marie Claire that while she lived in Los Angeles her entire adult life, the city had changed, and the pandemic accelerated that change. Factors like homelessness and taxes also contributed to her decision, though she emphasized she doesn’t want to criticize California.

Longoria clarified in an interview on The View: Behind the Table podcast that her move wasn’t related to politics, despite happening after the presidential election. She explained that work commitments – including filming Land of Women in Spain and Searching for Mexico in Mexico – led to her spending extended periods abroad, and she eventually decided to stay. She feels fortunate to have the ability to leave the U.S. when many Americans don’t have that option, and expresses anxiety and sadness for those who are stuck. Despite the move, Longoria remains active in her career, with recent projects including appearances in Only Murders in the Building and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip.

Actor Richard Gere has relocated from Chicago to Spain with his family. He explained on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in November 2024 that his wife, Alejandra Silva, who is from Galicia, encouraged the move, and they plan to live in Madrid for several years.

Gere is enthusiastic about what this change will mean for their young sons, Alexander and James, noting that his children are already bilingual and will thrive in the new environment. He also has an adult son, Homer, with his former partner, Carey Lowell.

The family seems to be adjusting well. In a January 2025 interview with Elle España, Gere shared that they are “happier than ever” and are really enjoying this new chapter in their lives.

Married to French singer Matt Pokora for over seven years, the couple previously spent six months of each year commuting between the U.S. and France. The family seems to be thriving in their new life. Milian shared with TopMob that her kids are happy and fluent in French, and she enjoys an active lifestyle with a healthy work-life balance, working ahead of schedule to accommodate the time difference.

Lindsay Lohan is frustrated by the ongoing speculation surrounding her decision to leave Los Angeles. She recently explained that her busy career and social life in the early 2000s were often overshadowed by constant paparazzi attention, which she found irritating. In a March 2024 interview with Bustle, she expressed a desire for her work to speak for itself, and felt the relentless media coverage created a narrative that overshadowed her professional achievements. This drove her desire for a more private life. Lindsay moved overseas, initially to London and then Dubai, and also started beach clubs in Greece, but a key motivation was to escape the constant spotlight and let her work take center stage.

Lindsay Lohan wondered if she would ever find love, questioning whether it would ever happen for her. She realized that taking time to focus on herself was the key to opening up possibilities and receiving opportunities she truly wanted.

Lindsay did eventually find love with Bader Shammas, marrying in 2022 and welcoming their son, Luai, in 2023.

The couple currently lives in Dubai, but Lindsay hasn’t left acting behind. She continues to appear in films like Our Little Secret, Irish Wish, and Freakier Friday.

Josh decided to leave Hollywood after some careful thought. He explained to People magazine in July 2024 that Hollywood isn’t just a location, but a way of life. Being surrounded by people constantly focused on the film industry, he felt, would limit his perspective. He wanted a more diverse life.

“I’ve always wanted to be around people doing lots of different things, things that would take my mind off work and help me grow in new ways,” he said. “That’s what makes life interesting.”

So, Josh, along with his wife, Tamsin Egerton, and their four children, moved to the countryside of Hampshire, England. He told The Guardian in July 2024 that time flies with a large family, and while life might seem slower, it’s filled with what truly matters. Despite the move, Josh has continued to act, appearing in films like Verity, Fight or Flight, and Trap.

If you don’t follow Jesse on social media, you might be surprised to learn he no longer lives in Los Angeles. In a February 2025 interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, the A Real Pain star revealed he’s lived in Indiana for the past ten years, finding it a more comfortable and stable environment. Despite being an Oscar nominee, Jesse lives a relatively normal life with his wife, Anna Strout, and son, Banner. He explained that he avoids social media and doesn’t spend much time networking within the entertainment industry. With a teacher for a wife and a son who isn’t particularly interested in movies, Jesse feels removed from the pressures of constantly evaluating his place in Hollywood.

Eliza Dushku, known for roles in shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the movie Bring It On, announced in September 2024 that she’s now a certified psychedelic-assisted therapist and is continuing her education in the field of mental health.

She explained to Boston Magazine that she was able to change her life’s path to prioritize her own well-being, with the goal of then helping others. She felt it was important to share her personal journey and the sense of peace and passion she’d found, believing this was truly her life’s purpose.

The actress best known for playing a character on The Flintstones shared that she relocated to Ireland in January 2025 with her son, Clay, and is working to become an Irish citizen because of her family’s heritage. While she mentioned current political events as a factor in her decision to move, she hasn’t ruled out the possibility of returning to her home country someday.

After two decades as an actress, the star of Ant-Man and the Wasp has announced she’s taking a break from acting with no set return date.

In a June 2024 Instagram post, Evangeline shared how happy and peaceful she feels while pursuing her dreams. She expressed gratitude for her good fortune, explaining that while it can be daunting to choose a path different from what’s expected – like prioritizing purpose over money and recognition – embracing her true calling has brought her a deep sense of satisfaction instead of fear.

However, she’s not ruling out a return to Hollywood completely, saying, “I could see myself going back someday, but right now, I’m happy where I am.”

Since finishing his role in the 2019 Netflix series V-Wars, the actor best known from The Vampire Diaries has been focusing on a personal mission: fighting climate change by working to improve soil health around the world.

Ian Somerhalder took a break from acting over four years ago to focus on his family, develop his businesses, and get his films released. He told TopMob News in November 2023 that he was working on launching the 2020 documentary Kiss the Ground and its sequel, Common Ground, both of which highlight the importance of regenerative farming. He shares two children with his wife, Nikki Reed.

Looking ahead, the actor plans to dedicate himself to ranching and building lasting brands – including his bourbon and health company. He’s also deeply committed to sustainable farming and soil health, principles he and his family practice. He explained that this future is central to his identity, and it’s the reason he’s so passionate about these things. He said, ‘This is who I am, and this is what I’m working towards.’

In a February 2021 episode of her podcast, Empty Inside, former iCarly star Jennette McCurdy shared with guest Anna Faris that she had stepped away from acting a few years prior. She’s now pursuing writing and directing, alongside hosting the podcast.

Jennette shared that she deeply regrets many of the acting roles she took in the past, detailing these feelings in her 2022 memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died. She explained that she feels frustrated with her career and unfulfilled by the parts she played, describing them as cheesy and embarrassing. Having worked on those shows from ages 13 to 21, she was already self-conscious about her work by age 15, feeling it wasn’t something her peers admired.

Despite past experiences, she hasn’t ruled out returning to acting. She explained to TopMob News in October 2022 that writing her book helped her consider acting in a new light, free from previous negative associations. She believes she might be open to it again, but only if she were to write a role specifically for herself.

It seemed like a pretty easy decision. The chance to marry Prince Harry, devote ourselves to meaningful charitable work, and even wear the Queen’s tiaras would make leaving Hollywood completely worthwhile.

Oh my gosh, it’s like history repeating itself! Just like Grace Kelly, Meghan actually left her amazing life – can you believe she gave up being on Suits?! – to become part of the Royal Family. But now, it’s even more exciting because she and Harry are doing their own thing in California, and she’s slowly getting back into the spotlight! I mean, that Netflix deal? Genius! And her docuseries, Harry & Meghan, was EVERYTHING. I’m already counting down the days until With Love, Meghan comes out in 2025! Plus, she’s doing podcasts and has her own brand, As Ever… she’s seriously unstoppable! I’m obsessed!

After starring in over 40 films since she began her career with 1994’s The Mask, the actress really needed a rest when she finished filming Annie in 2014.

She told Gwyneth Paltrow that she realized she wanted a different lifestyle. After years of intense work and filmmaking, she felt burnt out. She explained that making a movie is incredibly demanding—you’re committed for long hours every day for months, leaving no room for anything else.

Cameron Diaz had many interests she wanted to pursue, including writing – she followed up her successful book, The Body Book, with The Longevity Book – and starting a family with her husband, Benji Madden. Although she told InStyle in 2019 that she didn’t miss acting and was focused on wellness, it seems she might be open to returning for at least one more project.

Jamie Foxx explained that he and others had to really plead with Cameron Diaz to star in the 2025 Netflix movie Back in Action. He said they begged her, saying, ‘Please do one more!’ He added that they all love her and have been eagerly awaiting her return, and that the movie is going to be amazing.

The actor stated firmly that he wouldn’t return to the show after completing his five years on Empire. When Extra asked Terrence Howard about his plans before the sixth and final season aired in 2019, he said he was finished with acting and no longer wanted to play roles.

Despite appearing in a few projects since then, the Academy Award nominee announced his intention to retire from acting again in 2022 while promoting his Peacock series, The Best Man: The Final Chapters. He explained to Entertainment Tonight that he felt he’d given his all as an actor and now wants to focus on watching and supporting new talent, rather than repeating past performances.

Even with the previous concerns, Howard has continued to act, appearing in shows like Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist and the Netflix film Shirley. He also has several new projects planned.

After his character, King Joffrey, died on the show in 2014, the 21-year-old actor told EW he was leaving acting. He explained that he’d been acting since he was eight years old, but simply wasn’t enjoying it as much anymore.

Jack isn’t a child star anymore, and some of the excitement has faded. He explained that turning a hobby into a job changes things. “Before, it was just something fun to do with friends, or a summer pastime,” he said. “I still like it, but making a living from something alters how you feel about it. It’s not that I dislike it, it’s just not my career goal.”

After taking six years off, Jack returned to acting in 2020 with a role in the BBC series Out of Her Mind. Since then, he’s also been in films like Rebecca’s Boyfriend and In the Land of Saints and Sinners, and TV shows including Safe Harbor and The Famous Five.

When Jennifer Aniston, known for her role in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, married actor Kevin Kline in 1989, they decided to stagger their work schedules. This arrangement ensured they could both be available to care for their children, Owen and Greta, who is now a singer named Frankie Cosmos. Kline shared this plan with Playboy magazine.

He added that Phoebe consistently prioritizes staying home with her children whenever she’s scheduled to work. While she briefly appeared in her friend Jennifer Jason Leigh’s 2001 film, The Anniversary Party, Cates mainly focuses on running her New York City store, Blue Tree.

I’ll never forget when Rick Moranis seemed to disappear after being so huge in the ’80s with movies like Ghostbusters and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. It was heartbreaking to learn it was because his wife, Ann, sadly passed away from breast cancer in 1991. He made the incredibly selfless decision to step away from acting to focus on raising his children, Rachel and Mitchell, and I always admired him for that.

Despite not appearing in a live-action movie since 1997 – he even turned down a small role in the 2016 Ghostbusters remake – Rick remains a beloved figure, as seen by the strong reaction to news of an assault he experienced while walking in New York City in 2020. Fortunately, fans will be happy to hear he’s returning to the screen alongside Josh Gad in the upcoming Disney reboot, Shrunk.

After marrying fashion designer Adam Kimmel in 2010, actress Drew Barrymore suggested she was considering stepping back from acting. She told Vogue that most acting roles require intimate scenes, which she wasn’t interested in pursuing. While she felt her marriage was strong, she believed any potentially compromising role needed to be truly exceptional to be worth it.

After her son, Martin, joined his sister, Louisanna, in 2014, she firmly decided to step away from acting. She told Us Weekly in 2016 that she was happy being a mom and focusing on family. She explained she now helps her husband, Kimmel, with his work and enjoys painting as a hobby, stating, “I think that’s mainly why I stopped [acting].” She felt like an outsider to the movie world and was content with her new life.

She’d built a successful career with roles in popular shows like Ally McBeal, Nip/Tuck, Arrested Development, and Scandal. After all that, the Australian actress began to think she was ready for a change.

Turning 45, I started thinking about trying something completely new and challenging,” she shared on her wife Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show in 2018. “I had a good idea of what my acting career would look like for the next decade or two, so I decided to leave acting and start my own business instead.

Oh my gosh, you won’t BELIEVE it! Her company, General Public – it’s this amazing thing she’s been building, a total dream – was almost done! She only had ONE piece left to finish, just one! I’ve been following her work forever, and this is it, the final stretch! I can’t wait to see what she creates!

I spoke with Mitch Hurwitz, the creator of Arrested Development, and told him I was done with acting, so I wouldn’t be in a potential season five. He was very understanding and supportive, and we had a good talk. Surprisingly, he ended up writing me into five episodes anyway.

It’s understandable why, after winning three Oscars, an actor might consider what else there is to achieve. Following his sixth Academy Award nomination for his 2017 film, Phantom Thread, the actor announced through his representative that he was retiring from acting. The statement expressed his deep gratitude to everyone he’d worked with and to his audiences over the years, and clarified that this was a personal decision, with no further comments to be made.

Just as Daniel Day-Lewis had announced his retirement from acting, a new project drew him back in. In October 2024, Focus Features revealed he would star in Anemone, a film he co-wrote with his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, who will also be directing.

After finding fame on Good Luck Charlie, she decided to focus on her education in 2018. She went on to earn both a master’s degree and a PhD from MIT, and also attended Harvard Law School.
