Godzilla’s New Monsterverse Rival: Everything We Know So Far

The new series, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, has introduced the frightening Titan X. Accidentally awakened by Cate Randa, this Titan—officially named Co’cai—is one of the most terrifying creatures in the Monsterverse. While its appearance takes inspiration from the 1989 kaiju Biollante, Titan X is even more frightening. This massive, kraken-like aquatic creature is larger than Godzilla and uses enormous tentacles to pull ships beneath the waves.

Details about Godzilla’s latest Monsterverse opponent are still emerging, but it seems this creature has a unique electrical ability that it will likely use in a fight against Godzilla or Kong. We don’t yet know how dangerous Titan X truly is, or why it’s been dormant in the Axis Mundi since 1957. However, we are slowly uncovering important information about its origins, which should help us prepare for when it awakens.

3. Titan X Has Been Worshiped as a Sea God

Here’s what we know: While the Titan X was discovered relatively recently in the Axis Mundi, the creature itself has been alive for centuries. Flashbacks show it was active as late as 1957, which is incredible. Centuries ago, people on a remote Chilean island worshipped it as “The Great God of the Sea,” calling it Co’cai and believing it brought abundant life to the surrounding waters. This worship of Co’cai seems to have been a long-standing tradition.

2. Titan X Prefers Cooler Waters

Bill discovered the path Titan X takes as it travels around the world. This suggests the creature does more than just swim and eat, as migrations are often linked to breeding. The waters off Chile are quite cold, and this might explain why Co’cai went to the Axis Mundi – potentially, warmer temperatures caused by climate change have made other waters too hot. If so, Titan X will likely continue to travel the world’s oceans, seeking out cooler temperatures, and may head towards the North and South Poles.

1. Titan X’s Symbiotic Relationship Explained

Interestingly, Titan X seems to have a unique connection with small creatures called scarabs. These meat-eating hunters are attracted to blood, and historically, people in Chile used fish blood to activate them for summoning Co’cai. The scarabs create sound waves underwater, similar to sonar, and Titan X reacts to these signals. Afterward, the scarabs will attach themselves to Titan X’s body.

Okay, so here’s what I’m thinking about this film’s central relationship. It seems the scarab creatures are the ones truly driven by the need for cooler waters – and that makes sense, as most water-based animals migrate to reproduce. That would explain why Titan X is constantly traveling the world, basically scouting out the perfect breeding grounds for them. But the big question mark for me is what Co’cai gets out of this whole deal. A good symbiotic relationship should be mutually beneficial, and right now, that part feels a little underdeveloped.
