Taylor Swift Helped Domhnall Gleeson Check Off This Bucket List Item

Domnhall Gleeson never even dreamed of dancing through the lightning strikes with Taylor Swift.

Despite initially not knowing Taylor Swift, Domhnall Gleeson ended up acting alongside her in the music video for her song “Opalite,” which was released in February. He said working with her was a unique and unforgettable opportunity, even though he’d been in music videos before.

Speaking with Zuri Hall at the 2026 Oscars during Live From TopMob, the 42-year-old admitted he was surprised to be in a Taylor Swift music video. He’d previously appeared in a video with Hozier, which he was very proud of, and also worked with the Irish band Squarehead on another project.

He shared that he’s appeared in several music videos and feels proud of each one. However, he said performing a dance routine with Taylor was particularly memorable, something he hadn’t even imagined wanting to do until it actually happened. Domnhall, whose film Retirement Plan is up for Best Animated Short Film at the award show hosted by Conan O’Brien, and Taylor stole the show with a fantastic dance performance in the middle of the video. They were both wearing matching blue and orange tracksuits.

It seemed like a long shot for Domhnall to play Taylor Swift in her music video, which was styled like an infomercial. However, he was the one who actually made the idea happen! It all started with a comment he made when he and Taylor were guests on The Graham Norton Show back in October.

Taylor recalled feeling incredibly fortunate to be working with the group she was assigned to, explaining that she’d long admired all of their work. She shared that during a recent broadcast, Domhnall Gleeson playfully mentioned wanting to appear in one of her music videos, noting he’s Irish and was just making a joke.

She continued, saying that during the interview, she suddenly had an idea.

In addition to Domhnall, she also enlisted fellow guests Greta Lee, Lewis Capaldi, Jodie Turner-Smith, and host Graham Norton to participate in the project.

Taylor joked that making the music video felt like a group project, except it was all voluntary. She was thrilled that everyone from the show pitched in and embraced the 90s theme for the video.

She continued, saying that during the interview, she suddenly had an idea.

Oh my gosh, it wasn’t just Domhnall! She got Greta Lee, Lewis Capaldi, and Jodie Turner-Smith involved too – I seriously screamed when I found out! And can you believe she even convinced Graham Norton himself to be part of it?! It’s a dream team, honestly!

Taylor described making the video as a fun, optional collaboration, like a group project for grown-ups. She was thrilled that everyone from the show pitched in and embraced the 90s theme.
