5 Anime Stuck in Limbo That Desperately Need Another Season

Anime series don’t always receive clear endings when they’re cancelled, leaving many shows in a state of uncertainty, even those fans are eager to see continue. Even successful anime can take a long time to get renewed. Studios don’t always immediately announce new seasons, and even big titles sometimes delay making a decision. Sometimes, a show will return after years of silence, like what happened with Attack on Titan Season 2 and One-Punch Man Season 3.

When an anime isn’t very popular, a long period of inactivity usually means it won’t be continued. This is especially disappointing when there’s still a slight possibility of more episodes. Whether it’s a suspenseful thriller or a fantasy series left on a cliffhanger, fans are eager for these anime to continue. Sadly, the lack of updates doesn’t give much reason to be optimistic.

5) Talentless Nana

The anime series Talentless Nana is full of unexpected twists and its first season ended with several unanswered questions, hinting at more to come. However, despite premiering in 2020, a second season hasn’t materialized after six years. This thrilling show follows a secret assassin who goes undercover at a school for students with superpowers, and it’s remarkably well-made. With its complex characters and suspenseful plot, it’s surprising Talentless Nana hasn’t gained a larger following. Because it didn’t generate a lot of buzz, it hasn’t been officially renewed or canceled, leaving its future uncertain even though there’s still source material to adapt. It’s disappointing, as it would be interesting to see how the events of the first season’s finale impact Nana’s story.

4) Noragami

The second season of Noragami came out in 2015, and after a decade with no news about a third season, it seems unlikely one will ever happen. The anime is no longer available on streaming services, making a return even less probable. This is disappointing because the series only covered about half of the original manga, leaving several storylines unfinished. While it was good that Season 2 allowed Yato to develop as a character, it would have been more satisfying to see the full story unfold, find out what happens to Hiyori, and watch Yukine mature. Unfortunately, unless there’s a sudden change of plans, fans will have to rely on the manga to get the ending they’re hoping for.

3) Land of the Lustrous

Released in 2017, the sci-fi anime Land of the Lustrous quickly gained a following, but didn’t receive a second season. Interestingly, it wasn’t officially canceled either – it just stopped after its initial 13 episodes, a common situation for many anime. Although the manga concluded in 2025, fans can still find out what happens to characters like Phos, Cinnabar, and Adamant Sensei by reading the original source material. It’s a shame the story won’t be fully animated, considering the series’ beautiful and unusual CGI animation and captivating soundtrack showed so much potential.

2) Bloom Into You

Many fans consider Bloom Into You to be a fantastic yuri anime and a faithful adaptation of its source material. However, it only has one season, and after its release in 2018, there haven’t been any announcements about a second season. The manga continues the story in a way that many viewers would love to see animated, and it even has a more conclusive ending. Unfortunately, a continuation seems unlikely at this point. If you’re hoping for more of the story, the best option is to read the original manga by Nio Nakatani.

1) No Game No Life

Fans of No Game No Life are losing hope for a second season, as the first one aired way back in 2014. While a prequel movie came out in 2017, there’s been no news about continuing the main story – it hasn’t been officially confirmed or cancelled. Luckily, the original light novels are still being published, with a new one due out in April after a break, giving fans something to enjoy. However, a second season would be much more satisfying, particularly after the cliffhanger ending of Season 1. Unfortunately, it seems unlikely, and the series may remain unfinished.
