Teyana Taylor knows a thing or two about support.
It was clear how thrilled she was when Amy Madigan was announced as the 2026 Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actress. Zoe Saldaña had just confirmed Madigan as the winner, and the actress immediately stood up to celebrate her fellow nominee.
Amy expressed her surprise and delight at winning, noting it had been since 1986 since her last Oscar nomination. She then spoke about the supportive relationships she’d built with her fellow Best Supporting Actress nominees – Teyana, Wunmi Mosaku from Sinners, and Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas from Sentimental Value – over the past few months, crediting them with a strong sense of camaraderie.
She explained from the stage that while she was working on the ‘Weapons’ project, she mostly traveled independently. People associated with ‘One Battle’ and ‘Sinners’ were welcoming and invited her to join them.
Okay, she didn’t win an Oscar, but honestly, Teyana absolutely killed it this awards season! Getting Best Supporting Actress at the Golden Globes was HUGE, and so deserved. Seeing her up on stage in that incredible custom Schiaparelli gown was breathtaking. But it was her speech that really got to me – she gave such a powerful and moving message to all the “Brown sisters and little Brown girls” watching, and it was just…everything. She’s a true inspiration.

The actress, who is a mother to Junie, 10, and Rue Rose, 5, with her ex, Iman Shumpert, recently shared a powerful message. She explained that being sensitive isn’t a weakness, and neither is vulnerability. She emphasized that expressing oneself fully isn’t excessive, and that everyone deserves to shine and have their voice heard. She believes everyone belongs and their aspirations are worthy of pursuit.
The singer of “Gonna Love Me” recognized the significance of her accomplishment, thinking about all the hard work that got her to this point.
She expressed her gratitude to the Golden Globes, saying they recognized not just her recent performance, but her entire career. Sharing a photo of herself with the award on Instagram, she explained that after 20 years of hard work, this award wasn’t about a single role – it was a tribute to every experience, every challenge, and all the passion she’s invested in her work and in helping others.
She concluded, “Purpose doesn’t rush. It arrives right on time.”
