Fran Drescher Defends Timothée Chalamet Amid Controversial Comments

Fran Drescher isn’t dancing around Timothée Chalamet’s controversial comments.

While at the Elton John AIDS Foundation’s 2026 Oscars viewing party, the actress best known for her role in The Nanny responded to recent comments made by her Marty Supreme co-star regarding ballet and opera. She suggested he may not have intended his words to be taken the way they were.

She said he’s a genuinely kind person and likely didn’t intend to cause offense. Speaking to TopMob News at the event on March 15th, she suggested he may have simply been too comfortable and said something without thinking it through. Knowing his background – coming from a family involved in the arts and being surrounded by it his whole life – she doesn’t believe he meant for his words to be taken the way they were.

Similarly, Fran, who is 68, hoped the situation would be a learning experience for the 30-year-old, helping them deal with public attention.

She explained that he’s still learning and growing, and being so famous puts a lot of pressure on him. She added that public support can change quickly – people are just as likely to criticize as they are to praise, and that’s a tough lesson to learn.

She concluded that even if things were difficult, the experience would be valuable if they could learn and grow from it.

During the Oscars, host Conan O’Brien playfully joked about the viral moment involving Timothée Chalamet. Chalamet, who was sitting with his girlfriend Kylie Jenner, could be heard laughing as O’Brien referenced it during his opening remarks.

“Security is very tight tonight,” Conan announced to the audience at the Dolby Theatre. “I’ve heard there are worries about potential disruptions from people involved with both opera and ballet.”
