Paul Thomas Anderson’s movie won one trophy after another.
The creator of One Battle After Another won Best Picture at the 2026 Oscars on March 15th. Conan O’Brien hosted the ceremony, which took place at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. You can find a complete list of winners here.
Paul’s partner, Maya Rudolph, was overjoyed for him, covering her face with her hands and smiling brightly. He gave her the Best Director trophy he’d just received before heading onstage to give his speech.
In his speech, Paul expressed his joy at being included in this experience alongside the other nominees and filmmakers, even those who weren’t nominated by the Academy. He noted that there were many excellent films released this year.
The 55-year-old, who has four children – Pearl (20), Lucille (16), Jack (14), and Minnie (12) – with Maya, also praised his fellow actors. He highlighted Oscar nominees Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor, Sean Penn, and Benicio del Toro, and also gave a shout-out to rising star Chase Infiniti.
Honestly, heading into the final stretch of awards season, it felt like anyone could win Best Picture. But I had a feeling about Leo’s film – it just felt different, like he’d really created something special.
He said making the film was a deeply meaningful and collaborative experience. He credited the generosity, bravery, and skill of the cast – including Teyana, Chase, Benny, Sean, and Regina – as well as the dedication of the entire crew for making it happen, in a statement released after his nomination in January.

As awards season came to a close, it was hard to predict which film would win Best Picture. But Leo felt confident that his film was a strong contender.
He said the film was a deeply meaningful and collaborative project, one of the highlights of his career. He credited the film’s success to the incredible cast – including Teyana, Chase, Benny, Sean, and Regina – as well as the dedication of the entire crew.

Ultimately, Leo—nominated for Best Actor along with Michael B. Jordan for Sinners, Timothée Chalamet for Marty Supreme, Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent, and Ethan Hawke for Blue Moon—credited the film’s success to his director.
He explained that Paul’s creative vision, hard work, and faith in the film were essential to its success. He felt Paul had brilliantly told a story that truly resonates with today’s world, and he was thrilled the Academy had acknowledged it.
