Jane Fonda Reacts to Barbra Streisand’s Robert Redford Oscars Tribute

Jane Fonda had hoped for the opportunity to honor her late friend.

Following Barbra Streisand’s heartfelt tribute to Robert Redford at the 2026 Academy Awards, the 88-year-old Streisand wondered about one thing.

At the Vanity Fair Oscars party, Jane questioned why Barbra Streisand presented an award for Robert Redford. She joked to Entertainment Tonight that while Streisand had only appeared in one film with Redford, she herself had worked on four, implying she deserved the honor instead and had plenty more to add to the conversation.

Jane, who acted with Robert Redford in films like The Chase, Barefoot in the Park, The Electric Horseman, and Our Souls at Night, fondly remembered her longtime friend after his passing in September at the age of 89.

Jane confessed she had always loved him, describing him as incredibly handsome and a man of strong principles. She also emphasized his significant impact on the film industry, particularly his support of independent cinema and how he helped to elevate it.

In September, Jane Fonda, known for co-starring with Robert Redford for over fifty years, discussed their close relationship.

Jane told TopMob News she was deeply saddened to learn of Bob’s passing. “I was heartbroken,” she said. “I can’t stop crying. He was a wonderful person and meant so much to me.”

She described the veteran political and environmental advocate, saying, “He represented the kind of America we must continue to strive for.”

During the Oscars’ tribute to those we’ve lost, Barbra reflected on her relationship with Robert and honored his life and work.

“I feel his absence deeply, even the little things like his playful teasing,” Barbra Streisand shared. “He always called me ‘Babs,’ and I’d jokingly ask, ‘Bob, do I really look like a Babs?’ But the way he said it always made me smile.”

We were talking on the phone years later, discussing typical topics like politics and art—especially our shared favorite, Modigliani—she went on. Just before we ended the call, he told me, ‘Babs, I love you very much, and I always will.’

Barbara deeply admired Robert’s passion for activism and his appealing personality. She described him as both thoughtful and courageous, playfully calling him “an intellectual cowboy who forged his own path.”

To honor those remembered in the In Memoriam segment—which included figures like Rob Reiner, Michele Singer Reiner, Catherine O’Hara, and Diane Keaton—she concluded with a moving performance of “The Way We Were,” the Oscar-winning song from one of their films.

By the end of the night, Ryan Coogler and Paul Thomas Anderson, the directors of Sinners and One Battle After Another respectively, were celebrating their first Academy Awards – Coogler for Best Original Screenplay and PTA for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Jenner joined Timothée Chalamet at the Oscars as his date, marking the second consecutive year she’s accompanied him to the ceremony. He was nominated for Best Actor.

As other people began enjoying their snacks, Taylor applauded the casting director of One Battle After Another for receiving the very first Academy Award for Best Casting.

The Frankenstein star made the rounds in between awards.

Honestly, I was trying so hard not to lose it as my co-presenter and I walked onstage! We were about to announce the winners for Best Production Design – which went to Frankenstein, a fantastic choice – and Best Visual Effects, rightfully awarded to Avatar: Fire & Ash. It was a really fun moment, though keeping a straight face was a challenge!

Infiniti was overjoyed with how her first acting role in One Battle After Another was going.

As a longtime awards show observer, let me tell you, those moments are always awkward. I was cringing watching the Golden Globes when Mark Sonnenblick desperately tried to stall as they rushed his co-writer through their acceptance speech for Best Original Song. It’s a historic win, and you just want them to have their moment, but the broadcast had other plans! It really highlighted how quickly these ceremonies can move on, even when someone’s still speaking.

Although Madison won Best Actress last year, the recent reunion was still meaningful and enjoyable.

Timothée Chalamet’s sister and Kylie Jenner joined him in the spacious back row of the Marty Supreme vehicle for an evening out.

This photo isn’t a genuine moment between us – it’s just two actors sharing a quick interaction by the makeup station at the Oscars. Everything’s okay, no need to worry!

The 2003 Best Actress winner didn’t mind whiling away a few more of the hours at the 2026 Oscars.

Leonardo DiCaprio was there to celebrate Jordan’s win after a close race for Best Actor, where support for him grew quickly at the very end of voting.

This photo was taken on March 10th during a preview event for the Governors Ball at Ovation Hollywood. It’s a behind-the-scenes look at where the award winners have their statues engraved – a glimpse of how everything is prepared.
