The second season of Netflix’s One Piece, the live-action series based on the famous anime and manga, is now available and critics are loving it. After a nearly three-year wait between seasons, fans are hoping they won’t have to wait so long for the next installment.
The answer is no, you won’t have to wait long for more One Piece! After the first season did so well, Netflix immediately started planning the next one. That means we’ll be back with Luffy and his crew before you know it, and we already have a pretty good idea of what to expect – it’s going to be another thrilling season to watch all at once.
‘One Piece’ Season 3 Is Confirmed
Netflix confirmed a third season of One Piece will arrive in August 2025, though one of the show’s actors hinted at the renewal even before the official announcement. Production on the new season began in South Africa in November 2025, meaning the cast was probably filming while Season 2 was released on Netflix on March 10, 2026.
It’s unclear exactly when One Piece Season 3 will be available on Netflix, but we can estimate based on past releases. Season 2 started filming in June 2024 and finished in December. Netflix announced production was complete in February 2025, released a trailer a year after that, and then the new season followed a month later.
Although Season 3 probably won’t follow the exact same timeline as before, we can use this as a general idea of when things might happen. If filming starts in November 2025, it could finish around April 2026. We might then get an official announcement in June 2026 and a trailer a year later, in June 2027. This suggests Season 3 could arrive in the summer of 2027, which is a realistic estimate. The good news is fans likely won’t have to wait nearly three years for new episodes – a wait of just over a year seems much more probable.
Which Cast Members Will Star in ‘One Piece’Season 3?

One Piece features a huge number of characters. While the core Straw Hat Pirates—Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and Chopper—are in almost every episode as they search for the ultimate treasure, the series also introduces many other characters. Some of these characters have short appearances, while others become important parts of the ongoing story.
Season 3 seems to be adapting the Alabasta storyline from the original manga and anime. This arc centers around Luffy and his crew assisting Princess Vivi in her efforts to avoid a civil war in her kingdom, and gives us a good idea of which characters from Season 2 will be back.

What Will ‘One Piece’ Season 3 Be About?

Netflix
It appears that One Piece Season 3 will largely center around the Alabasta arc, a departure from the show’s usual format. Unlike the first two seasons where the Straw Hat Pirates quickly moved from island to island, this season will spend more time in the desert kingdom of Alabasta. The crew will investigate a plot by the powerful Crocodile to create chaos and civil war within the country.
Most of the new actors joining the cast will play members of Crocodile’s crew. However, Xolo Maridueña, known for his role in Blue Beetle, will be playing Portgas D. Ace, a character with a strong relationship to Luffy. It’s particularly exciting that Cole Escola, the comedic talent behind the Broadway show Oh, Mary, is taking on the role of the colorful Bon Clay.
Besides Vivi, another important character from the Alabasta storyline, Karoo—a large duck who’s Vivi’s friend and ride—hasn’t been seen in the show yet, but hopefully will appear in Season 3. Also, two of Crocodile’s subordinates, Mr. 4 and Miss Merry Christmas, haven’t been announced, and it seems likely they were left out of Season 2.
A group of villains are attempting to start a war in Alabasta, and our heroes are working to stop them. Because the Alabasta story is a major moment in One Piece, it’s possible the anime will spend a whole season covering it. While it’s unlikely, there’s still a chance the show might move on to the Sky Island arc later in the season, but it’s too early to say for sure.
The Tone of ‘One Piece’ Season 3 Will Be Different

Netflix
Emily Rupp talked to ScreenRant about how the show will feel a bit different in season 3 and said:
It might seem surprising for a show like One Piece, which is known for being over-the-top, but the core story of Season 3 is surprisingly relatable. Compared to the first two seasons, this season’s central theme is something many people, both in America and around the world, can connect with and see reflected in their own lives. It feels particularly relevant to what’s happening now, and we hope it offers a message of hope.
The Alabasta storyline focuses on a nation torn apart by internal conflict. Focusing the entire season primarily on one place could really help to emphasize that sense of being trapped and limited.

Taz Skylar recently discussed the major changes coming in Season 3 of the show with The National.
Season three had some truly special moments that I don’t think could have happened on any other show. I feel so lucky to have been a part of it. We all had those ‘wow, this is incredible’ moments, realizing how unique the experience was, and that these scenes wouldn’t have worked anywhere else.
After the end of its second season, the popular Netflix series One Piece is getting some interesting updates.
Will There Be a ‘One Piece’ Season 4?

Netflix
The Alabasta storyline finishes in chapter 217 of the ongoing One Piece manga, which currently has over 1,175 chapters. If Netflix aims to adapt the entire series, or even just half of it, they’re facing a significant undertaking.
Netflix hasn’t confirmed whether One Piece will get a fourth season. Recent reports suggest the show’s future is uncertain. Although Season 2 did well overall, it hasn’t remained as popular in the U.S. as fans had hoped, quickly dropping out of the Top 10 most-watched shows. One Piece is currently number one in many countries, including Germany, Brazil, Mexico, France, and India. However, the U.S. is Netflix’s most important market, with the largest number of subscribers, so its performance there is crucial.
Is the show doing poorly enough that Netflix might cancel it after this season, or at least delay a decision about renewing it? It’s likely too soon to know for sure. Currently, both seasons of One Piece are available to stream on Netflix.
