Alan Ritchson Shares Solid Snake Fan Art After Hideo Kojima’s Comment

Okay, so things are getting interesting! After watching Alan Ritchson in Netflix’s War Machine, even Hideo Kojima – the genius behind Metal Gear – saw a connection between Ritchson and his iconic character, Solid Snake. And Ritchson? He’s clearly picking up what Kojima is putting down. He shared some seriously cool fan art on Instagram, created by BossLogic, that imagines him as Solid Snake. It’s not an official announcement, of course, but it definitely feels like Ritchson is throwing his hat in the ring, and I, for one, am intrigued. He’s got the build, and now he seems to have the creator’s attention – could this actually happen?

The artwork shows actor Karl Urban dressed as Solid Snake. It’s designed to resemble a movie poster for War Machine, but the title is written in the distinctive font from the Metal Gear Solid video games. Urban shared the image with the caption “The Dream” and a line from the game’s complex story, “Next, La Li Lu Le Lo?”

Alan Ritchson Looks the Part as Solid Snake In Metal Gear Movie Fan Art

This all started with a post he made on social media the Friday the film became available on Netflix in the US. Kojima explained the movie was a blend of his Metal Gear video game series and the films that influenced those games.

Hideo Kojima shared on Twitter that he really enjoyed War Machine, describing it as a blend of Predator and Metal Gear. He called it a fun movie for fans of the genre, praising Alan Ritchson (known for Reacher) for his performance and noting that Dennis Quaid also stars in the film.

Is a Metal Gear Movie Happening?

I remember when Hideo Kojima first announced a Metal Gear movie way back in 2006! For years, everyone was buzzing about who would direct – some even suggested Uwe Boll or Kurt Wimmer – and who could possibly play Solid Snake. Names like Viggo Mortensen and Hugh Jackman kept coming up, but we didn’t get any real news for a long time. Finally, in 2012, for the 25th anniversary of Metal Gear, Kojima shared that Arad Productions would be making the film with Sony’s Columbia Pictures. It was a huge relief to finally hear something concrete!

Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the director of Kong: Skull Island, was originally set to direct this film, but it went through several different writers. While it was reported in 2020 that he was still involved, recent rumors in 2024 suggest he has left the project. Development on the film has largely stalled since then.

Avi Arad, from Arad Productions, mentioned in 2024 that they’re still refining the script, but he couldn’t share any details just yet. He believes audiences will be very pleased and caught off guard when it’s revealed.

Now that the movie’s script is still being revised and Isaac may not be involved anymore, could Ritchson take on the role of Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid film? He’s definitely expressed strong interest in the part.

War Machine is streaming now on Netflix.
