Dearest Members of the Ton, a new Bridgerton series might be on the horizon.
As someone who keeps a close eye on what’s trending in entertainment, I can tell you there’s definitely buzz around expanding the Bridgerton universe! Shonda Rhimes, the brilliant mind behind the show, has hinted at potential spinoff series, especially after the huge success of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story last year. It seems they’re exploring all possibilities to keep that world alive!
Shonda recently told Craig Melvin on his podcast, Glass Half Full, that she’s enthusiastic about exploring that idea, believing it has a lot of potential and could be developed in a compelling way.
But who exactly would the potential spinoff focus on?
Shonda Rhimes mentioned she’s long believed Violet Bridgerton would be an ideal character to narrate a story, specifically focusing on the Bridgerton matriarch. She added that exploring this idea is definitely a possibility.
Season four of the Netflix series delved deeper into the story of Violet Bridgerton (played by Ruth Gemmell) and her blossoming romance with Lord Marcus Anderson (Daniel Francis). This relationship unfolded years after the passing of her husband, Edmund Bridgerton, and involved the brother of her friend, Lady Danbury (Adjoa Andoh).
Okay, so things got… complicated. At the end of the season, Violet actually didn’t marry Marcus, and honestly, it broke my heart! But Jess Brownell, the showrunner, explained it perfectly. She said saying ‘yes’ to Marcus right then would have been like Violet just rushing into another marriage immediately after losing her husband. It makes sense, I guess, but still… I was rooting for them!
According to an interview on the Bridgerton: The Official Podcast (via Tudum), Brownell explained that the character has significant personal growth ahead. She needs to focus on helping her children launch their own lives and make their debuts before she can fully pursue her own desires, but the show will eventually get to that point.

Julia Quinn, the author of the Bridgerton books, did write a short story called Violet in Bloom that covers Violet’s life, including her childhood, meeting Edmund, and his eventual death. However, she hasn’t felt comfortable writing further stories about Violet, particularly knowing the sad ending that awaits her and Edmund.
I’m incredibly grateful so many readers are hoping for Violet to find happiness again,” she shared on her website’s FAQ. “However, I don’t plan on writing another story for her.”

I initially believed her strong feelings for Edmund were the reason, but after reading about second loves in When He Was Wicked, I realized that wasn’t it. I’ve given it a lot of thought, and honestly, I don’t think anyone would be good enough for her. I really love her as a character, honestly.
If you’re looking forward to a possible Bridgerton spin-off, here’s a rundown of other shows premiering this year to keep you entertained.
