Rumors are spreading that Jim Carrey might be back for a fourth Sonic the Hedgehog movie, and some sources claim he’s already begun filming his part. The news originated from a post on X, which cited insider Daniel Richtman as saying Carrey is returning.
According to recent industry news, Jim Carrey is likely to reprise his role as Dr. Robotnik in another Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Sources say filming has already started, but Paramount Pictures hasn’t made any official announcement yet.
Following the success of the first three movies, a fourth film is already in the works – the studio approved it even before the third one came out! Ben Schwartz is back as the voice of Sonic, and Kristen Bell will be voicing Amy Rose. Joining the cast is Sir Ben Kingsley, though his role is currently a secret.
Jim Carrey played Dr. Ivo Robotnik (also known as Eggman) in the first three Sonic the Hedgehog movies. He also appeared as Gerald Robotnik in the third film. The movie ends with Robotnik’s fate unclear, as he seemingly sacrifices himself with Shadow during the final battle with the Eclipse Cannon.
Okay, so the very end of the movie – after the credits, of course – definitely shows Shadow is still alive. But as for Robotnik? His fate is a total mystery. It’s clearly left open, and honestly, I’m already hearing whispers about how they might bring him back – something about a familiar storyline being revisited. But for now, everything is just rumor; nothing’s been officially confirmed about what happens next.
Filming for Sonic the Hedgehog 4 started in early March, and the movie is currently planned to come out in March 2027. The studio will likely announce the cast, including whether Jim Carrey will be returning, sometime in the future.
